We have it on good authority that Fritz Lang's restored version of Metropolis will finally reach DVD from Kino (here in R1) on February 18 as a special edition release. This is the new, German restoration that is currently making a tour the art house circuit.

This is good to hear. I love silent films and Metropolis is one of the best. So many of the German films from that period are great Did you see the restored Nosferatu on Turner Classic Movies last week?. They did a beautiful job with that. It has a sort of sepia (sp?) look instead of black and white which makes it even more creepy. It's amazing that a film that old can still send a chill up my spine. I'll bet it must have done been very frightening for viewers way back in the early '20's.

I did not know that Nosferatu had been restored. Thanks for that info. Is it on DVD? I have never seen it, but it does look creepy. Metropolis is so amazing for its time. The special effect stand up very well.
