You are doing a great public service on this issue, Sabertooth.
Well, did I mention this is a vanity post?
Actually, I was quite aware of Bush's position on #187 when I voted for him. But when I mentioned it to another Freeper today, she asked for the quote and I couldn't find it, just references to it.
So I'm running this little thread for edification.
I got it from the asianam.org site at #6.
Here's another reference to that quote, via the Washington Post (and courtesy of UncleBill)...
Against the spirit of CA Proposition 187
During his first campaign swing through California in June, Bush said he was against the spirit of Proposition 187-which in part would prevent illegal immigrants from attending public schools-and would not have supported a similar measure for Texas. I felt like every child ought to be educated regardless of the status of their parents, he said.

LINKHere again we see Bush misrepresenting 187 as a measure that would deny children an education based on the status of their parents.
Can't remember, did the L.A. Times ever try to sell that particular snake oil in their ongoing slanders of 187?
Keep in mind, the people it caused problems with are the same power-hungry, hateful Democrats who tried to overturn and steal the Presidency in 2000.
The only difference was, we stuck by Bush. He went AWOL for us.
Your northeast roots are showing, Mo.
I was referring to "us" as in "those of us who supported him in 2000 but were let down by him (and others) in 1994 on 187."
BANG .. BANG .. BANG
What's that noise ... Ooops .. it's me banging my head up against the wall
