Can anyone help? Prior to last night, when I'd get a ping, the comment, including any graphics would appear in any pings I get. My ping to this thread just showed the following:

Title of thread plus,

I want the text and graphics back. Anybody know what happened and how to correct it?

To stop the evil of Islamic fundamentalism, the tragic Greeks would make ready the 101st Airborne and the Rangers, while too many in academia would rather that we chit-chat with him, fathom him, or accommodate him as did the Clinton State Department.

The ancient Greeks were pretty isolationist, weren't they?

True, according to legend they sailed off to Troy to get Helen back, and they formed their own empires of allied Greek states, and had far-flung settlements, but they didn't go abroad "in search of monsters to destroy." Ideological crusades of our sort were alien to them -- at least when it came to areas far outside their own territories.

That doesn't mean that that's the right policy or applicable now, but VDH ought to be wary of "Nussbaumizing" history and philosophy -- of always pinning his own beliefs on the ancient Greeks and assuming that that justifies them.

I just started rereading "A War Like No Other" last night.

Always liked VDH. Thanks for the ping.

When I received that reply from you, it didn't show up when I clicked "pings". The text of your reply used to show up, now I'm only shown that I got a reply from you and I have to click the number, go to the thread to read the reply.

Ooooohhhhh!

Now I get it.

Near the top of your “My Comments” screen, click “text”; right now you have “headers” mode on. I’ve had that do it by itself before.

Thanks a lot, that fixed it.

No way did I change it to “Headers” myself. I can look at the replies now and am able to tell if I have already read them or not.

It’s a mystery. I’ve had that change on me when I clicked reload the page in the browser.

And the Greeks based theirs on Egypt’s culture. We’re throwing away 10,000+ years of human learning in modern teaching. Have humans really changed that much?
