The death of Jill Dando remains one of the biggest mysteries in British criminal history, 25 years on from her murder.
Ms Dando was shot dead on her doorstep by a single bullet to her head at 11:30am on April 26, 1999. The keys of her BMW convertible were still in her hand.
The Crimewatch host was found outside her home in Fulham 15 minutes later by a passer-by and was rushed to Charing Cross Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:03pm.
Her unsolved murder became one of the largest criminal investigations in British history, with hundreds of suspects.
Decades on from her killing, lawyers have urged investigators to reopen the case.
Barry George, an autistic man with an IQ of around 75 and a history of sexual offences, was convicted of her murder and spent eight years behind bars.
But his conviction was overturned and he maintained he had never met Ms Dando in his life.
Other culprit theories include that it was a former lover, and a Serbian hitman - Ms Dando had been sent threats after helping to raise £1 million for refugees in the Balkans.
"Your Prime Minister [Tony] Blair butchered 17 innocent young people," an unknown caller to the BBC said. "He butchered, we butcher back. The first one (Jill Dando) was yesterday."
Other possibilities raised include that Ms Dando was killed by members of a criminal gang that she was looking into in her Crimewatch role, or that her killing was a case of mistaken identity, and the killer meant to shoot another, similar-looking journalist.
Another possibility was that Ms Dando was killed on the orders of Jimmy Savile because she was investigating paedophilia.
This theory has been dismissed as implausible by the investigator who helped expose Savile later on.

I would like to read the evidence against the autistic guy who was convicted and then released eight years later, after an appeal.
Was his release the result of one of those Innocence Project style scams, where Reasonable Doubt is introduced years after the trial, and then defense lawyers and Hard Left activists dance around in the street, pretending he was innocent all along?
Full Disclosure - even when a guilty man is released, I still believe in the legal standard of Guilt Beyond A Reasonable Doubt.
That's exactly what happened to a girl that was murdered from my high school in 1983. The murdering scum was known to her family. He picked her up when she was walking to school. By his own admission, he got enraged at her when she called him "trash" after he tried to hit on her. He drove to a secluded spot, raped and strangled her.
35 years later, his case got reviewed. With evidence gone and witnesses dead, the state let him go. Now he drives around the country making jewelry out of his van, and he has a nice Innocence Project page proclaiming he was wrongly accused.
Most Innocent Project releases are made on new DNA evidence because of the huge strides made in that area.
New DNA evidence usually causes a readonable doubt.

Looks like any researcher who investigates pedophilia and gets close suffers the same fate.
Just maybe, one of these days, they will learn to keep the investigation secret until the release.
It will never be solved.
There was a case about 15 years ago where the Innocent Project people said they had found DNA evidence from the truck where a murder took place that would prove their hero not guilty because he said he wasn't even in the truck. They gloated how they were going to make the small-town Florida po-lice look like racist hick fools. When the DNA results came in, it was an exact match for their hero and so he remained in prison.

It doesn’t change the fact that DNA exhoneration is a good thing.
I agree with that. I only want people who are guilty of a crime to be in prison.

In whodunit’s, first thoughts are often touted as revealing. D’oh, this is COMPLETELY ORIGINAL, but could it have been someone connected to a crime she exposed, or one she was making someone nervious about at the time? Mebbe she was killed by police to cover up their criminal activities. I fear that about 50 million people beats me o this brilliant insight...
