No in Texas at night all the kw can and have been wind power we have well over 50-000megawatts of installed wind power and at night it’s the sole power source besides the nukes that never get turned off. We have nights where the wholesale price of power is negative and wind is curtailed before the miles everything else shuts down as well. Coal is less than 9% of Texas grid.

Are you in the power industry? I am I sell power and consult as an engineer in the industry as well.

Right now at 1645 the ERCOT grid is 43% wind, 24% solar , 18% natural gas, 7% coal, and 7% nuclear. Those are live ERCOT nunbers.

At least argue from a point of fact. Coal is a tiny fraction of power in my home state and as a nation it’s less than 20% total anywhere. Natural gas picks up the slack when peak power is needed. The way it should be looked at is every megawatt hour solar or wind puts into the grid that’s millions of BTUs of gas that gets saved for another day in the future. There is a finite supply of gas and it will be more valuable for chemicals and fertilizers and plastics that it ever will be used once and burnt to the sky. I don’t understand why people can’t grasp this simple mathematical reality.

Here is the free ERCOT dashboard power professinals get much better access look at the wind and solar today vs coal

https://www.ercot.com/gridmktinfo/dashboards

All of my power this month has come from my roofs plural and I sold a good chunk of it to ERCOT at peak rates I am installing at 10 to 15kw turbine and another 20000 watts of panels on roofline and posts garnering more peak rates. It’s literally like having money trees in the back acreage. My Tesla has used zero kWh from the grid let alone coal and it never will nor can the dotgov turn off the sun so I always will have power for my home and now at least one of my vehicles. We get 220+ days of sun in Texas at my location that’s thousands of kWh per month.

L Do you post ANYTHING that doesn’t cheer lead for BEV’s?
“polymath” my ass”

Do you even know what a polymath is?

It’s a person skilled and functional in mathematics, engineering, sciences, art, music and literature. The other term is Renaissance Man. I am a engineer(mech) by one degree, scientist(geologist, geochemistry, hydro) by 3 other’s, play trumpet(jazz, blues, symphonic),drums, acoustic and electric bass. I sculpt, paint, and do origami as well. So yes a true polymath with a membership to Mensa.

I can do math very well the kind that most people failed as a weed out class junior year after the two calculus classes. Not being innumerate the clinical term for it. I can see what the rest of deep thinkers see. There is not enough resources on this planet for 8 billion people to consume energy in any other form than nuclear, solar ,biomass ,wind and geothermal. This is a cold hard mathematical fact. No amount of I don’t want to change my lifestyle because I’m old and retired or old and near death will change those numbers.

Let me be clear as a energy industry 20 year expert in multiple disciplines hence the polymath there is 47 years at 2022 consumption levels of liquid hydrocarbons left those are resources at any price for recoverable not economic reserves know the difference. When not if the middle classes of India and China together numbering in the billion people range demand energy consumption at even EU levels of use that doubles the world wide consumption rate 47 is now half that.

Humans have the technology to move past single use of a very precious resource. Oil is best and should be reserved nearly exclusively for plastics, chemicals, lubricants, medications, fertilizers et al. Burning it once to the sky so boomers don’t have to change their lifestyles is not going to fly globally and those counties have nukes and hundreds of millions of fighting age men. If they decide to start resource wars they win by demographics alone. Even using nukes killing 500 million Chinese would not end their existence losing 200 million Americans in a nuclear exchange would end the USA for good.

This is the reason the power that be are moving to transition the energy system it’s a resource management issue. The climate commies have latched on as they see a power grab to exploit that doesn’t change the fact that this planet cannot support 8+ billion people who all want and need middle class levels of resource access.

The largest chunk of wasteful energy use is light duty vehicles most of which don’t drive more than 30 miles per day. This is low hanging fruit shift those to electrons from sources that will never run out.

“Drivers are highly unequal in their gasoline consumption. The drivers in the top 10% of gasoline consumption each use upwards of 1,000 gallons of gasoline each year.
Collectively Gasoline Superusers burn nearly one-third of all U.S. gasoline consumed in the U.S. by light duty vehicles. This is more than the bottom 60% of users combined. The top 20% of gasoline users burn 48”

^^^^More numbers not emotions.

Solid state cells can address the superuser issue without having to go to the stick vs the carrot. Switch to long range electron powered vehicles and eliminate the gas tax and charge by tbe mile for everyone based on tire contact psi the higher the psi road load the higher the charge logarithmic in charge as the wear rate on a road surface is quantifiable with measurements as a log log function of tire pound per square inch of road surface area.

I’m a huge fan of use pays since I’m in the top income tax brackets I personally am subsidizing people’s road use. Even a super user with 1000 gallons per year is only putting in $184 per year into the federal hwy fund. While driving 28,000+ miles per year. It costs a million or more per mile of roadway do you honestly think that $184 covers even a tiny fraction of the capex let alone the maintenance cost of 28,000 miles worth of use. No it does not, not even close. So pay as you go is the solution pay by the mile for every mile. Drive more pay more that’s as fair as it gets.

” new cottage industry is born...disabling the disabler!”

Don’t get caught doing it or having it on your vehicle. Just like disabling EPA emissions controls is a federal level felony with years in prison, loss of firearms and loss of voting rights. Take it to the bank disabling the black box will be as big or larger of a felony. It would be easy to check even while in motion send a command to the network for the ECU to report back its status via the coms channel and that no defeat device exists in the signal path also easy to do with CANBUS inside the car. It won’t be a simple relay it will be a coded CANBUS signal directly to the ECU and back to the black box. That two way coms will 100% be encrypted with no public key. Even putting a spoof unit between the ECU and the black box won’t work then since the spoof unit won’t have the proper response key to the request of the black box only the ECU will have that response key. Anything between the ECU and black box will trigger a tamper alarm and likely a automatic upload to the 4G network of the tamper attempt with VIN info ,date time ect. Jamming the 4G won’t work as it is active signals all the time 24/7 since the black box would immediately send a message once the jamming stopped. Jamming 4/5G is again a federal level felony with years in prison and detectable from hundreds if not thousands of feet away. It would trigger the FCC network of sniffers for sure. Plus it would jam your smartphones and everyone around you 24/7’ the black box would also have a time to live more if it doesn’t hear from the network in X number of hours it bricks the vehicle or more likely goes into limp mode and kicks a fault code that only the dealership can reset. Use blockchain to secure the translational coms from the black box, ecu and network they are effectively without national technical means unbreakable. So no don’t expect to just have joe six pack under the shade tree disable a black box , even computer science PhD would struggle to defeat a modern encrypted security chain. The other way would be to require the ecu to check in every X days with the black box using blockchain to check for anything in the coms path and if it doesn’t then limp mode. So two way security from the ECU outwards and from the network inwards anything in that path gets flagged.
