Every time I re-read this, I realize what an abject piece of scum Walter Cronkite was.
Ernie Pyle he was not.
When he stopped reporting the news, and took up the megaphone of political commentary based on personal views it wasn’t immediately recognized by the trusting public. That’s where the words of life should step in with a bit of help from on high. Simply said, “trust not in the arm of flesh”.
More to the point found in Isaiah 31:1 which reads: Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!
Another example from Ps 146:3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. Lastly from 2 Chr. 32:8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. This last might seem to be in conflict with the others considering it came from a man. Nevertheless, it does confirm in whom our trust should be.
