I see. That seems a little odd to me, to condemn nation-states in the West, but when push comes to shove, Israel is fine to escape to.

No problem with Israel being a refuge for Jewish people all over the world, but it seems to my humble eyes that there is not much love lost between leftist Jews in the diaspora on one side, and the State of Israel on the other.
Of course, as soon as the shoe begins to pinch, the leftist Jews will profess their love for Israel, „all of a sudden“…
Maybe it is this kind of dishonesty which got Mr. Shapiro incensed. I don‘t know his writings very well, but I would be on his side.
Otoh, when have leftists, of any country, ancestry or faith, ever been honest? 🙁
