You don’t go to the school first to file criminal charges.

You go there first if you’re looking for assurance of a quick payoff.

A kid suffering from abrasions or a minor injury during normal training or during an athletic competition is quite different IMO from being injured from what I see as an over-the-top punishment meted out by a coach for something as simple as laughing in class, and not even something that happened in the coach’s class.

The principal already gave the girl detention but said they “would let their softball coach know about the situation”.

I’m guessing the principal was thinking about the coach making the girl sit out the next practice or game and not giving her a physical punishment that resulted in severe burns.

BS

Blisters come from thin skin and work.

I didn’t see any blisters...just pixelated spots. If these are “altered” photos...what else was altered to make it seem horrific?

The Daily Mail UK doing it’s thing...

When I was in the 7th grade (mid 70’s), our middle school had a multi-purpose room that served as our gym, auditorium, and our lunchroom.

As my class was the last to be served lunch, at the end of our lunch period (actually our lunch ended 10 minutes earlier than all the others), we kids had to gather all the folding chairs and stack them up in racks and also the large folding tables on wheels, which was mostly the boys’ job. These tables when folded were probably about +10’ tall. And this was pretty much unsupervised by any adults.

But the boys often got reckless as boys at that age can be and had “table races”.

One day a group of boys were pushing one of those large folding tables at great speed, not looking where they were going and ran into me as I was gathering folding chairs, knocking me over, the table hitting my head and knocking me out for short time.

The school didn’t call my parents and instead sent me to the nurse’s office where an ice pack was put on the big “egg” on my forehead.

When I got home and my mom and dad saw my “egg” and now my black eye, I told them what happened.

My dad was especially furious and went to the school the next day to talk to the principal.

He reminded the principal that this was not a job for kids, especially unsupervised to do, that his tax dollars paid for janitors whose job this should be and tore her a new “you know what” for not calling my parents or 9-11 when I was briefly knocked unconscious.

He didn’t call the police or file a police report or file a lawsuit, but as a result of his rather heated conversation with the principal, we kids no longer had to do this. We still had to gather the folding chairs, but the janitors had to fold and remove the folding tables.

Huh, I guess I would be considered a “quick payoff” guy by you then.

Whenever my kids had a problem at school, first thing I did was go to the school and talk to the teachers and principal. No sense involving the cops if it is a misunderstanding. That said, when my daughter’s purse was stolen in class, I forced the principal to keep everyone in class and search all their backpacks. Principal did not want to do it because “the kids will miss the bus”. Principal was black, and the kid that stole the purse was black ... but daughter got her purse back and everything in it. I let the Principal know that if the kids got on the bus, I would have the cops come and THEY would search the backpacks. When the purse was found, I told the Principal that the student had to be punished or I would file charges against her.

Out of curiosity, I checked, and Caldwell is in the low 80s range so far this week. Ambient temperature of 95 seems to be when asphalt in direct sunlight can cause a burn. I don’t know what she crawled on, but it must’ve been a hotter day. I watched a few videos because I’ve never heard of this exercise before, and I wonder why only the outside part of her palm got blistered and the inside part or her fingers. All the demonstrators had their hands flat on the floor.

I was too afraid of my coaches to find out what a punishment would be in their class. I suspect it would’ve just involved running some laps.

I’m with you. I remember when the neighbors could beat you and your parents would go over that night and thank them.

The student isn’t so bright either.

If her description is accurate, why would she willingly burn herself?

I suspect her so-called burns are not really severe. I grew up in the tropics and something like this never happened.

Why tell the coach when he/she had zero to do with the class she laughed in? That’s another teacher who needs to be charged in the legal case.

Can’t stand coaches. Never met one who didn’t enjoy throwing their weight around and meting out ridiculous punishments.

Monster female coach. We had one in middle school. Lived with the other female coach. Enough said.

Gotta love how the “karens” are exposing the paths to wealth in this country.

Are you aware that severe infection can result from an open wound? President Calvin Coolidge's son died from a foot blister from basketball.

This girl's blisters had already popped when she asked for mercy, and was denied relief until she finished the sentence imposed by the diesel coach, at which time dirt and particles entered the open wounds, which had to be abraded (scraped clean) at the hospital.

I wondered, too; but possibly she was trying to avoid putting a palm flat down on a hot surface, which must have felt like a clothes iron. I remember walking on my feets' heels when entering a hot sandy beach for the same reason.

This story and the hysteria are entirely bullshit.

“Can’t stand coaches...”

bgill I so agree with you. More so in the school systems. Coaches are not teachers. They are coaches the school hired to coach but have to double or pretend to be a teacher. Most with rare exceptions are lousy teachers.

This is why I brought up the old fashion punishment of cleaning back boards and erasers because that is what a teacher would have done. Doing this “bear” thing what ever it was is what a coach would do. The teacher is smart, she gets a cleaner class room and the student gets their aggressions out on the erasers. All the coach gets these days is a lawsuit.
