I like Beyonce but, her rendition was mostly unremarkable and uninteresting.
If saying “ She sang fine” is an insult, it’s the best compliment I could come up with.
The whole album is an unfortunate and forgettable example of someone who can sing and hit the notes but, there was no attenuation of tone, a nominal texture and lacked emotion.

I had never heard her before, so I went to YouTube and listened to half of her rendition of Jolene. It had all the emotional impact of someone reading names from the telephone book (for those old enough to remember those).
“Don’t take my man but Jolene, I don’t give a damn. Guess he’s yours if you want him, Jolene.”
She’s got lots of awards and has sold a jazillion records which may be evidence our society deserves to fail.
