You could be right.
If they took the grid down right then, it would be terrible. A lot of stranded people.
No gas stations open. Stores would be emptied. Water would run out.

Not to mention, their vacant homes would be easy pickens for the unprepared.

Funny that you mention that. I have also been expecting some major event - not necessarily related to the election - associated with that eclipse.
