*They pronounce “divisive” as though it rhymes with “submissive”.
*They start every verbal opine with the word “Look”.
*They parrot “I could care less”.
*They say “at the end of the day” frequently.
*They inject the word “comprehensive” into every policy wish list.
*They get a Marketing or Ad Agency position and use the 30 year old tired palilogy of “REAL this, REAL that!”
*They frequently misuse the word “whom” (That’s me! 😜 Doh!)

I can never remember how to use “data” properly either. I had a boss that was a stickler for it. IIRC it was “The X data was high (singular), while the Y data was low (singular). Both the X and Y data were (plural) reviewed...”

That is probably wrong, but what do I know. And I don’t always adhere to it. My clients have never raised an issue with it.

Reminds me of the large spray-painted graffiti written on the roof of a building at college: “I can’t even spel ennginer and now I are one!” Was there the entire four years, and visible from a main road!

However, they did start a new writing program at the school that was integrated into all of the other courses. I made friends with a math and science genius to help me, and I helped him with his essays.

Yeah I hear you lol. But IMO it’s optional and sounds puffed up. I was reading an article just the other day on FR where a guy described himself as “an history professor” and I couldn’t help rolling my eyes...

My English teacher, sister Agony, would rap my knuckles if I said "ofTen".

That got the point across to me.

I already know I have average intelligence. This article indicates that fortunately, I missed the bus going to Full Dunning-Kruger.

and they put “an” in front of words starting with the letter h.”

But, but, but, putting the word, “an,” in front of the words which begin with the letter, “h” is, in fact, correct English! ;-)

• Use An if the next word starts with a “silent” ‘h’, followed by a vowel .
example:
an hour and a half

Your Weltanschauung, as en courant and reflective of the latest dernier cri as it might be, is obviously not in alignment with the current Zeitgeist.

Suggest you consider implementing a paradigm shift.

14. They think reality tv is trash.

Gee. I've never seen the point of reality TV. I never had time for it when I was in graduate school or later when I was working.

Most TV is trash.

Actually, if you research Cliff’s/John’s background, he has a couple patents and started a unique packaging company called Ranpack. Art imitates life.

See, this is interesting.

“Once, for a brief period of success, we machined dimples into the sides of engine pistons, and we placed ‘TEFLON’ buttons in those depressions. After a few winning races, our competitors demanded a teardown. The sanctioning body made a new rule, banning the technique.”

This is freaking brilliant. And everytime I read about innovations like this, I understand there are plenty of people smarter than I am.

So I chased down the article and sure enough, it IS fascinating. So I ask you, why is dimpling not standard practice in commercial ICEs? Seems like the power and mpg gains would be fantastic.

One habit of people with zero intelligence who try to seem smart:

1: Work for MSN / MSNBC.

What’s number 1? Reading MSN on a regular basis?

OK ... off to read the article ...

OK ...

Reality TV is trash, and it has nothing to do with “emotional intelligence”. It’s just scripted soap-opera pretending to be real life. Bleh ...

“Embrace change”??? Coming from MSN, that seems like a slam at people who reject woketardery and the push for “diversity”.

14. They think reality tv is trash.

Well, I'm certainly guilty of that one.

“Why is dimpling not standard practice in commercial ICEs?”

Cost of manufacturing and maintenance, and probably warranties.

An imperfection in the cylinder wall, or “dirt,” could machine a button and thus, the piston skirt is offset a bit. Whereas, without the buttons, the engine would run longer.

Teflon in this case, not physically durable in the long run of an engine. Probably somewhere, there are a few test engines laying outside, rusting away in a junkyard. A stack of those, not getting past 1,000 or 5,000 or 15,000 miles, would end the project.

I thought data was plural. Is datum the singular, or do I have it backwards?
***
I think data is plural. What I can’t stand is when people say “monies”.
