Insects are eaten in Africa and Asia but they are not a major source of food or calories, and nowadays not eaten much at all.

I think my husband ate crickets once since we moved to the Philippines, And in Africa flying ants and caterpillars are scrounged as a rare treat but not raised to eat.

Tofu and yeast based protein make more sense.
