In 2012 I totalled my Toyota Yaris by hydroplaning in the rain kn the freeway.
Took the residual equity check from insurance and bought a Subaru legacy wagon on Craigslist with 200 k miles. AC still blew ice cold. Drive it for another 100 k until t-boned on icy roads by driver who couldn’t stop. It stove in the passenger side and blew out passenger windows in February Michigan.
I still drove it home and to a Subaru dealer where I bought a demo low miles Impreza.
Sold on Subarus with AWD in Michigan Winters.

I had a 1982 Subaru GL wagon that I bought with 100K on it and sold for the same amount with 230K, nine years later. Never needed anything but regular oil changes, a new water pump once, and one of the front CV joints was going bad around 180K so I replaced them all. Great little car, though heavy for its size. The guy who bought it rolled it two days later.
