A dangerous blizzard continues to pound California, leaving tens of thousands of homes without power and forcing a long stretch of Interstate 80 to shut down.
The powerful storm has dumped more than three feet of snow across the Sierra Nevada range, with wind gusts over 100 mph in the Mountain West.
A half-million people are under blizzard warnings, with another six million under winter weather alerts, as an additional one to two feet of snow is expected in higher elevations.
National Weather Service meteorologist William Churchill warned that the massive blizzard is creating a 'life-threatening concern' for residents near Lake Tahoe.
Churchill said snow totals by late Sunday would range from 5 to 12 feet, with the most extreme conditions unfolding at elevations above 5,000 feet. Lower elevations will be inundated with heavy rain.
I-80, the region's major east-to-west roadway, has been shut down in both directions since Friday night with numerous cars and trailers being left stranded on the road.
The California Highway Patrol's Truckee office said in social media posts: 'It took several hours for emergency personnel and tow trucks to reach motorists'.
There has been no estimate when the freeway would reopen, as the office suggests people to stay home in a series of posts.
'Stay warm and don't put yourself and your family in a dangerous situation,' one of the post reads.
Kyle Frankland, a veteran snowplow driver, said several parts of his rig broke as he cleared wet snow underneath piles of powder.

Who gives a sh$$? Suffer
Hopefully everyone in the path of the storm has a fireplace with plenty of wood, or a generator.
Good thing they have all that solar and windrower in CA.
windpower
With the planet on the verge of spontaneous combustion from man made global warming, how is this possible?
It’s called winter!!!!!
“Worse drought in 12,000 years”
“We’ll never have snowpack again”
“No more precipitation ever!”
All statements from idiots who have been in California for less than one eleven-year cycle. The cycles come, the cycles go. It’s eternal.
I moved to the Bay Area in the summer of ‘73. I hiked to the top of Yosemite Falls in January ‘74! No snow anywhere on the trail and the temperature reached about 70 that day. That’s when we learned to put a brick in the toilet, use “gray water” in the garden, don’t flush for #1, and shower with a special friend. I never did any of those stupid things. They all got recycled in one form or another for COVID (masks, “social distancing,” one-way aisles at the market, yellow tape on benches, etc)
That doesn't work to save water. Showers take more than twice as long as two individual showers. :-)
“Hopefully everyone in the path of the storm has a fireplace with plenty of wood, or a generator.”
Where is your /s tag?
This is the land of solar panels, windmills and electric cars.
Let’s think of all those electric cars stranded in that blizzard. I hope all the IC vehicle owners allow them into the warm cars powered by petrol. Yes, the petrol will run out also, but a lot later.
...is hyping up what locals in the Sierra Nevadas refer to as winter.
I thought it was the land of Fruits & Nuts?
If this were July it would be quite a thing. However, it is merely what is described as winter. The scientists/meteorologists often are nitwits who like to frightened smoothbrains.
I have to laugh at the greenie climate change activsts froyhingat the mouth at every meteorological event.......
” WE ARE DOOMED! “ they scream while their ancestors new damn well that they needed to put buy an extra 5 cord of wood for harsh winters, cut fore breaks around their homes, and build they places high enough above a creeks flood plain
or store a canoe on the roof.
BUt these globul warming idiots have only ome answer to weather changes: Totalitarian government to shut down so called carbon criminals.
As such they are treasonous a$$ hats that their ancestors would ridicule if they were around today.
I ridicule them on behalf of those ancestors.
Meanwhile watch and laugh.....yet we are are still here:

The Sierras have winters with almost no snowpack and then they have WINTERS with a 40 ft snowpack.
I’m not seeing 9 ft of snow in those pics.
I firmly believe that 9 ft of snow will show up in some Sierra places. It’s Global Warming for sure.
This story is all lies. We were assured by our betters that California is now permanently in drought. /s

They tore down a LOT of dams and reservoirs, dumping all that fresh water runoff into the sea, instead of to Central Valley and other farms.
