What is the point of paying all the time for Microsoft 365? My guess is because it is cloud based and can be used by you on all your so called “devices”. Just so long as that device is signed in to yr Microsoft account.

There various ways to get Microsoft products for much less than the normal retail price. Some of them are scams, some of them are in a “gray area”, and some are completely legit. The same is true for other software products.
It depends on what you are comfortable with. And it is important to use due diligence whenever you seem to be getting a product for a lot less than what you would normally pay. Earlier I mentioned a software product that I use and purchase the latest version every year, partially to support the developer. Every year I get the latest version’s “permanent license” for over 80% less than the retail price... directly from the developer and it is totally legit.
Recently I purchased a Flight Simulator program for far less than the normal retail price through Kinguin. It involved buying a “Steam Account” that the seller had set up. Once logged into the Steam Account I could see that the game had been purchased at a large discount directly from Steam. I then changed the username, password and the other log in details.
Kinguin facilitates this type of transaction but is not the actual seller. I have seen various theories on how this actually works. A lot of people speculate that this is not a legitimate way to get the software. The seller has approximately 2.5 million satisfied customers and has been in business for years according to their Kinguin feedback profile. And part of the price that is paid is used for “insurance” in case you do get scammed. I assume that this is in some type of gray area. It did not seem all that risky and everything has been working fine.
I have purchased other software from retailers such as Humblebundle.com at heavy discounts and never have had any problems. They seem completely legit.
Of course, there are other providers of various software keys. Some seem legit, others obviously are not.
