It has been very easy from the beginning to get Windows 11 to run on most hardware without much if any difficulty. But Microsoft has been warning that people without processors on the official list ae going to not be able to get updates, or these computers are going to stop working soon... for years.
I have been using Windows 11 on a laptop with a Ryzen 5 2500u processor since October of 2021. This processor never made the official list, but is arguably more capable than some other CPUs that did. Fortunately, the Ryzen 5 2500u has full POPCNT support. So, this article is meaningless in my case.
Apple is just like Microsoft..except it is hardware.
Mint21 runs fine on older PCs, even matching the speed of newer chip PCs.
I have a Compaq CQ57-339WM that I am typing on.
I think I bought it in 2013.
The CD/DVD drive is temperamental but otherwise the hardware is fine.
I don’t think I can upgrade the processor for Windows 11.
Use VirtualBox 7.0
Linux (Mint) host...
Pick one or more guest VM’s including up to Win11
Even better use KVM/QEMU
the architecture of my machine does not support windoze 11, do i will not ne upgrading. it glitches on 21h1 21h2 as it is.
i will not be uupdating to windoze 11 on my thinkpad either ...i loooked at linux, too much coding to fart with at 71.
Gigabyte pc from 2015 (built myself) and a HP z240 sff from 2018. Paid $135 at Amazon. Retail was $3,200 in the reviews I read in a google search. Imagine spending that kind of money only to be told nope, can’t run the great Windows 11!!
Neither can run Windows 11 unless I use some 3rd party instructions. Using the free Oracle VM VirtualBox I installed Windows 11 in a virtual window on the Gigabyte pc that runs Windows 10 Pro.
I would not buy a newer pc just to run Windows 11.
You mean just like it does on supported CPUs?.................
Yes but those who can’t keep up need something to bitch about to make themselves seem relevant
Bummer.
I only check out these windoze threads so I can laugh at people using such primitive operating systems as windoze
When it is actually this:
I am calling foul and getting real tired of this deceptive impression these MS folks are using to paint Linux...
