I don't know where they are getting their data, but according to Worldometer, Covid cases and deaths are running at a small fraction of what they were at this time last year, and there has not been anything resembling a "surge" - a steep rise in cases - in over a year.

The only true statement in the excerpt is that cases are probably significantly underreported, and the reason for that is that the symptoms are minor, resembling a common cold. And who ever thought Covid would be "eradicated" within five years?
