Caffeine restriction can help improve and reduce the severity of primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE), according to a study.
Sadra Rezakhaniha and colleagues investigated the effect of caffeine restriction on the improvement and severity of PMNE in a randomized clinical trial involving 534 children aged 6 to 15 years. Caffeine consumption was <30 mg/day in the intervention group and 80 to 110 mg/day in the control group.
Before caffeine restriction, the mean number of bed-wettings was 3.5 and 3.4 times/week in the intervention and control groups, respectively. The researchers found that at one month after the intervention, the mean number of bed-wettings was 2.3 and 3.2 times/week in the intervention and control groups, respectively. In the intervention group, caffeine restriction significantly reduced the severity of enuresis. Improvement (dry at night) occurred in 20.2 and 6.7% of children in the caffeine restriction and control groups, respectively, with a relative risk of 0.615. Caffeine restriction significantly reduced enuresis, with a number-needed-to-treat of 7.417.
"Caffeine restriction can help reduce PMNE or its severity," the authors write. "Constructive limitation of caffeine is suggested as one of the first-line treatments in the management of PMNE."

Because it keeps you up ALL night.
Or maybe you can wake up too early drink a cup of coffee and go back to sleep like me
A six year old drinks coffee?
Holy bleep.
Who feeds their kids this much caffeine?!
YOU drink 17 cups and see if you don’t wet the bed!
Caffeine causes bedwetting, who knew? Sorry, considering the amount of caffeine I get and have gotten for years, as and since being a kid, I must be the exception.
Mountain Dew, Energy Drink.
Why are kids that age getting that much caffeine to begin with??????
That seems like a-dilemma with Slow Joe. Can “Dr.” Jill can find a solution?
C’mon people. This is a trial balloon to restrict and eventually outlaw caffeine. They’re already saying coffee is racist and White Supremacy. And when they get called on it, they’re going to “pull back” on the studies but the Overton Window has been moved and they’ll bring up at a later date.
“...involving 534 children aged 6 to 15 years.”
Who the heck is giving caffeine to kids?!?! I realize once your TEENS are out into the world anything goes and SO MUCH MORE is out of your hands, but never in my WILDEST DREAMS would I have allowed coffee or soda for my kids under 15!
They’re NUTS ENOUGH as it is, LOL!
Well, yeah.
Caffeine is a super diuretic.
I love coffee but I got to go a lot after.
I drink it for the severity. I hate when it just drizzles out....
Was this reported in the highly reputed journal “Duh”?
Sheets can be washed, I won’t go without my 10 cups of coffee a day.
I also thought caffeine was a diuretic, but it doesn’t actually dehydrate a person from what I’ve read. However, it is a bladder irritant and can make one feel as though he needs to visit a bathroom quickly and often until the irritation passes. Other irritants are artificial sweeteners, fruit juices and even tomatoes.
They are young and do not need the energy boost.
