I hear THAT on the mailbox situation! I got so tired of replacing mine that I just got a PO Box in town - but bought a new mailbox for the new owners, depending upon how they wanted to deal with it after I told them the sad tale of losing a mailbox nearly every winter to the snowplow.

More progress for you! :)

It looks like the mailbox at the new place has also been hit - sort of dented up & flag is bent. I think the post is ok, but I haven’t taken a close look because the box is across the road with hardly any place to stand due to a fairly significant ditch. They do have mailboxes that ‘swing’ to the side when hit by a snowplow & the road does get plowed since it runs right into town & is heavily traveled. I would think a plow hit would have knocked it totally down. Status: to be determined!

Mom is worried that the mailbox we moved yesterday will be missed by the carrier who will arrive at the former location to find no mailbox & wonder what is going on! I have a huge orange cone that I will put on the old spot with a note so if the carrier is not paying attention & misses the box, they can just back up across the driveway. We are having big problems with the mail here - doesn’t come at all some days, comes well after dark quite often. At the new house, the carrier is pretty regular: 8:50 - 9 am .... I see her while having coffee and watching the cows/calves across the road :-)

Last fall we cancelled our PO Box. It was 150.00 last year and this year would have been 160.00. Just not worth it given we don’t get much mail and had to drive a round trip of 6 miles to get it. When we had our house built in 1984 we could not keep a mailbox at the driveway. Dirt road, no houses across the road, we lost a couple from baseball bats and the last one to a pipe bomb. So since 1987 we had the box in town. Last fall when I found out the rental was going up again I looked and found this heavy duty box online and it has a key access. Large too. We love it and our mail is secure. Our mail carrier said he has not seen vandalism for many years. Guess they matured. Link for anyone interested. Thread slide over. LOL
