Actually I have. And one of the cornerstones of treatment was owning up to your mistakes. The ones that did best were the ones that took ownership of their part in the addiction. Drugs are a symptom of a greater illness in our society. People are using drugs yo fill holes in their lives. But they just make new and worse holes.

I’m a “recovered” alcoholic with over 35 years - those of us who beat the addictions are the lucky minority - I’ve seen many die because they couldn’t do it...to pooh-pooh them is ignorance at its finest.
Glorified by media and entertainment figures and junkie rocknrollers— as in the song by Nine Inch Nails “The Hurt”-
cover of which was last recording of Johnny Cash (a life of speed, coke, alcohol, and selling his history as a victim— a multimillionaire victim). As you say- these are life decisions which do not self correct without self-discipline which was never really there.
“The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt”.....
A very depressing music video last of Johnny Cash- like a video maybe could have been made by Caligula before the Praetorian Guard killed him for the sake of Rome.
