The interesting thing about the old style 15 pin game port was that they are analog to begin with while USB uses an analog to digital converter, which is what the adapter that I use with old controllers provides. Because the 15-pin adapter provides analog output... it makes it very easy to evaluate the condition of the resistors that are being used in your controller.

The old control yokes and rudder pedals that I have are very easy to troubleshoot when they are not working quite right.
