I’ve used old seed catalogs to make origami pots before. Glossy paper holds up longer, but you have to poke holes in it or water can’t pass through. Non-glossy lets water through, but by the time you get around to planting the bottom will have disintegrated.

Thanks! Great idea on how to use up shiny paper; I never seem to have a use for it.
