They might have a complaint.
Problem is the folks churning out the dreck are far less important than the people who bankroll it.
And the people bankrolling it get to decide what’s diverse.
Diversity and inclusion ain't about including those who are already included. It's about including the most radical notions in society, PARTICULARLY those who are suffering from some sort of boy/girl delusion.
And it ain't just Hollywood, it's other institutions too. Corporate America and the Universities for starters. One could make a case about many of the churches too.
So yeah. The Jews in Hollywood are right to be concerned. How would you like to lose your job to a transsexual, just because it's a transsexual?
Well, to go along with their point, how many characters or actors in Hamilton are Jewish?
People seems to have forgotten that Hollywood was started by 6 jewish men who were run out of other States and came to California to practice their disgusting business.
I just considered it cool the way he played Colonel Klink, playin the nazis as totally stupid *****. Cooler than John Wayne. An episode of Hogan's Heroes was a good or bad episode according to how much Klink was in it.
THEN later in life I learned the guys story.
RIP Werner.
+1
“Are these people serious with the claim Jews are underrepresented” in Hollywood?”
Might as well claim blacks are underrepresented in the NBA.
I’m pretty sure the only place Jews are underrepresented in the entertainment world, broadly defined, is hip hop and gansta rap. But put that aside. The U.S. population is rapidly diversifying. Yes, we should control our borders, but even if we did that today, huge demographic change is already baked into the cake.
In any field, and not just in movies, reflection of demographic change measured as statistical representation of Group X at elite levels will tend to be a lagging indicator. It takes time for newcomers to learn the language, assimilate, slog their way through the educational systems, acquire the necessary skills outside the classrooms, and build careers in highly competitive fields.
Some fields have lower barriers to entry than others. Acting, athletics, and popular music are easy examples. They are youth oriented to begin with, and very young people can and do perform at elite levels as teens and young adults. But even that gets complicated. You need old, smart, experienced, insanely focused people to coach professional football teams. And you need highly educated medical types to repair broken players. But on the field, you give the ball to the young studs. Diversity comes a lot faster on the field that it does in the coaching ranks or the front offices, where people have spent 20-30 years working their way up.
The film industry? Diversity in front of the camera is easy. Writers, directors, cinematographers, etc. are a bigger challenge. Studio executives will have worked their way up on the business side. Producers are a mix, but typically they’ve slogged a long road and are experienced hands.
The activist types don’t care about any of this. They see “diversity” as a hustle and a shakedown racket. I had my Road to Damascus moment a few years ago, realized that I had a huge blind spot (more than one, actually) about movies, and started exploring a bit. I don’t follow the industry closely, but I read much more than I used to — and there are two huge problems that seem to stand out with regard to diversity.
The first is the push for defacto racial quotas with regard to writers and directors. Again, actors are relatively easy to diversify. (This can be overdone when hacks who can’t think of original stories resort to blackwashing or gender bending legacy characters; that’s toxic as well, but there are plenty of good black/female/Klingon actors out there — so just write good stories for them.) But good writing is really hard, and great directors are few and far between. Again and again, when the saving remnant of honest reporters explore this angle and find people who are willing to speak out — almost always off the record — the recurring observation is that writers’ rooms are the hardest places to diversify. The quality of writing in films and tv is in sharp decline.
Some of this is due to the overexpansion of streaming and the streamers’ insatiable demand for generic content so that they can throw something new at every market niche on a 24/7/365 basis. The industry overexpanded; it’s as if the NFL decided to put an NFL team in every city of more than 100,000 people and broadened the player pool accordingly. Theatrical movies never operated that way.
But the activists’ racialism has poured gasoline on the fire. Virtually no one will speak about this on the record, but the industry has staffed its bloated writing ranks with activist hacks who are there for identity politics reasons alone. And they regard themselves as a protected class. They cannot be touched.
The other particularly vulnerable sector is senior management, especially at the larger companies. The top studio execs are highly visible, highly compensated, and thus easy targets. They are under tremendous activist pressure, some of it coming from woke investors and regulators as well as outside grifter groups. The very top executives at the large companies have traditionally been white men, reflecting the demographics of the people who have been working their way up those hierarchies for the past 30 years. Now they are being pressured to achieve diversity. Exactly the same thing happens in the film industry as elsewhere — and many freepers rail about this at their own places of work. The senior execs, to protect their own butts, set diversity targets for hiring managers at the second, third and fourth tiers. The organization’s executive team fills up with people hired on non-merit grounds.
That has predictable consequences. One of the most toxic is that second and third rate people who have been hired for the wrong reasons will feel threatened by competent peers and subordinates. They become reflexively hostile to real talent because it makes them look bad. They start recruiting people like themselves and the organization gets caught in a death spiral. Which brings us to Disney, which may be the worst case out there.
Intersectionality means that the feminazis, the trans nazis, the racial hucksters, etc. will all support each other. And the streaming model means that box office accountability has broken down. Old Hollywood had plenty of problematic people, but they all knew they had to make movies that sold tickets and put butts in seats. But the streamers are selling subscriptions, not movies, and if passive couch potato viewers don’t cancel their subscriptions, cheap garbage will do. The hottest properties for the streamers are sports, not quality movies or shows. And trash tv sells; more people watch Wheel of Fortune and other game shows, or the dating “reality” shows, than will watch even the best movies.
Good movies are still being made. Increasingly, they are coming from abroad, from countries not as infected by wokeism as the U.S. And they pop up regularly from the remaining small independent producers, even if they ultimately get bought by a streamer for distribution. I am always willing to cheer for the low budget indie film with a writer/director team of one, which is a tough nut for the diversity gestapo to crack.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is that still a thing with all the crap they produce
“So many Jews in showbiz
Tom Cruise isn’t but I hear his agent is”
I never saw replacement theory here proving as disastrous for the Jewish left as it has
Man they are squirming
Im being honest
I didn’t know fellow lefties of the non white variety hate Jews so much
Toss in typical Jewish Allenesque self loathing
And you have hemlock of their own creation
Where in that pesky contitution thingie are the words Protected Class?
Why is our government using such words?
Irish Catholics need not apply.
Jews are about as underrepresented in entertainment as women are on NFL cheerleading squads, blacks on NBA rosters, Indians on tech support call center staffs, and Japanese in sumo wrestling.
There are simply not enough Jews in hollywood
Well, I guess that answers the question. Are Jews White?
That is a good read, thanks.
