I honestly never needed redshift so have no clue how well it works. Sounds like you have specific special needs most would not. Too bad you judge all of Linux based on that one personal special need.

“I have installed Mint a few times and it is awful.”

Obviously not recently or you didn’t take time to understand it. Because it is the best Linux OS out there right now. It is almost Win 7 in function. It is not awful if I have not had to update or repair this Mint install for almost eight years now.

When using Linux Mint. At least red shift comes pre-installed, It has only one adjustment. While win-11 has adjustments across a range.

I used to use a program called Flux to do these adjustments. It works great too.

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they’re designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn’t be looking at the sun.

f.lux
f.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer’s display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It’s even possible that you’re staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

Download f.lux (v4.130)
Free on Windows, for personal use

Me no use Apple. But long ago they added a red shift adjustment that works across a range of blue-red. For their phones and laptops.

Chrome OS? Low blue light. They have it too!
