“My goal here was to share a project that adds utility to a computer and does not cost anything.”

I caught your intentions. It is a cool thing to do for those here using windows.

But would also like to share that for Linux users there are also apps for Linux that allow you to run Android apps if they like.

Thank you very much for the link!

The way that I have it set up... my primary laptop boots fastest into Ubuntu and I have Steam installed in Ubuntu for playing my collection of Windows based games and flight simulators which works surprisingly well. Many programs and games can be very demanding especially in higher resolutions, so I am always trying to figure out which OS works the most efficiently and is most stable for various applications.

My laptop does not meet the minimum requirements for the X-plane 12 Demo so even after trying various ways to fool the installer it still wouldn't install in Windows. But I was able to install the X-plane 12 demo in Ubuntu. It just had an unacceptably low frame rate even at the lowest screen resolutions.

I am going to try installing Waydroid in Ubuntu... right now and see how that compares with BlueStacks and Windows Subsystem For Android. I will try to report back when I get a feel for how it is working.

Why do I tinker around with various operating systems and old computers? It is a hobby and a distraction. To me it is just interesting to see what is possible. The last few days I have been fooling around with some solutions to get old 15 pin joysticks, game pads and flight simulator controllers to work with USB. It has been both frustrating and educational.

I spent the last two hours getting Waydroid to work in my Ubuntu Studio installation. At this point I am very impressed although I still have not got it to recognize any of my game controllers, the volume is extremely low and it will not play YouTube videos. But all of that represents only the need for more time and stubbornness. I seldom give up on fixing issues such as these.

It is funny that someone complained that the directions for installing the Windows Subsystem for Android sounded like Latin to them. It is child’s play compared to getting Waydroid set up in Ubuntu Studio. I am sure there are some flavors and versions of Linux where this would not have been an ordeal. But with the nearly countless varieties... one often has to do a lot of research and troubleshooting to get hardware and software to play nice together.

I have years of experiences that give me an advantage over most people and help keep me from throwing in the towel too easily. Thankfully the Linux community shares a lot of information in numerous forums that can usually help after some digging.
