Boy shot in head while looking at Christmas lights with mom driving for DoorDash

An 8-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the head while he was out looking at Christmas lights with his mother who was also delivering food for DoorDash.

It happened in Lawton, Oklahoma, which is about 90 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. Nichole Groshong said in a GoFundMe post that she, her sons Zack and Waylon and her mother-in-law were in the 900 block of SW 35th Street around 8 p.m. on Dec. 10 when she stopped and put the car in reverse to show them some more lights.

Then shots rang out.

“I drove away as fast as I could,” Groshong wrote. “My kids said they were okay, but Waylon then informed me that Zack was bleeding and he didn’t know from where so I drove as fast as I could to the hospital while my oldest kept his little brother awake all the way to the hospital and they said that was the best thing he could have done.”

Police later arrested 30-year-old Jullian Phillips for the shooting. Phillips has no ties to the victim’s family and it appears to be a case of mistaken identity, although Phillips is not cooperating with police, Sgt. Christopher Blessing told Law&Crime.

Prosecutors on Monday charged Phillips with shooting with intent to kill. Phillips remains in the Comanche County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He has a court date scheduled for Jan. 22.

From Lawton's Wiki page:

The racial makeup of the city was 60.3% White, 21.4% African American, 4.7% Native American, 2.6% Asian, 0.3% Pacific Islander, 3.4% from other races, and 4.9% from two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race were 12.6% (7.8% Mexican, 2.8% Puerto Rican, 0.3% Panamanian).

I assume this Door Dash driver was obligated to go to the bad part of town, thus ignoring Scott Adams's advice.

I don’t think you find too many Christmas decorations and lights in the bad parts of town.

You might. They're just more garish.

Someone -- maybe it was Brookhiser -- said that when he was growing up, there were people who decorated their lawns with white lights for Christmas, and people who used colored lights. Wealthier people tended toward white lights, working class people toward colored lights.

Aha! I’ve discovered where my prejudice comes from.

Everytime I read one of these stories I check who did it and 95% of the time it’s a black person.

So I get to thinking that blacks on average tend to be considerably more violent than other races.

Am I being irrational or bad for arriving at such a conclusion? And avoiding interacting too much with unknown blacks?

Maybe pre-judging could save your life.

To me, a smallish white female, pre-judging is what keeps us safe. It’s just natural instinct.

“It’s just natural instinct.”

Yep, it’a SURVIVAL instinct. It’s why we shy away from lions and Tigers.

But they want to eradicate that natural, rational instinct for the sake of “equity”.

Their favorite method is through “guilting” you.

I say, screw them. See my tag line.

Why were the Christmas lights driving for Door Dash?

Wealthier people tended toward white lights, working class people toward colored lights.

I’m too lazy for the lights thing, but I always thought the colored lights were more festive. My wife favors white lights. Her dad was very blue collar (saw mill operator) and my dad was a tweener (draftsman)

No matter it’s the thrill of the kill no reasons required.

Stay alive stay armed.
