The deceased suspect in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas shooting which killed three people and the gunman has been named.

Anthony Polito, 67, has been identified as the shooter who opened fire on the UNLV campus just before 12pm on Wednesday.

He had applied for a professorship at the college but was rejected, according to reports.

Polito was armed with a handgun when he opened fire on the campus and killed three people before he was shot dead by police in a shootout on Wednesday morning.

A search of Polito's home is currently underway as detectives work through the night to continue their investigation.

Polito spent more than 15 years working as an associate professor at East Carolina University.

He was educated at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business where he gained a Doctor of Philosophy.

Polito also listed he achieved a Master of Business Administration at The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and attended Radford University where he completed a Bachelor of Science, Mathematics and Statistics as a double major.

His failed job application was reported by 8 News Now, with sources telling the site that he may also have had connections to a person who works on campus.

On his LinkedIn page, Polito claimed to enjoy hearing positive feedback from his students.

Link to his web site:

Looking at his web page, I would say he was probably a very lonely guy who looked for fulfillment in life, in all the wrong places.

Who doesn't?

I wonder how he dealt with those who didn't give him positive feedback?

He was 67! What did he expect? He should be looking at retirement.

This reminds me of the nutty female professor that threatened the news reporter with a machete.

Some people just can’t take “No” for an answer.

He was so smart but went to Radford as an undergrad in the mid to late 70s? Something doesn’t add up with this guy.

Did I mention he was a MENSA member and has a 47 page resume online that mentions every paper he every wrote and every class he ever taught.

That's typical for an academic. It's usually not called a resume, it's called a Curriculum Vitae, or CV for short.

The curriculum vitae, also known as a CV or vita, is a comprehensive statement of your educational background, teaching, and research experience. It is the standard representation of credentials within academia.
 The full CV is only used when applying for academic positions in four-year institutions.

 Do not use a CV when applying to community colleges—use a teacher-focused résumé instead.

 Tailor your CV to the specific positions to which you are applying and place more relevant sections earlier in the document.

– For a position at a teaching-focused liberal arts college, the CV will strongly emphasize teaching.

– For a position at a research-intensive university, the CV will accentuate research.

 Format can vary by field, so also seek disciplinary-specific advice from advisers, professors, and others within your field.

 There are no length restrictions for CVs.

Given what happened, so do I.

Radford was known as a party school and a 3rd choice school. It was also popular among students who were smart but didn’t make good grades.

“His failed job application was reported by 8 News Now”

I am always amazed how quickly information about certain people get out so quickly, but others’ info (like bho’s student records, passport, and real birth certificate) that would seem really in the public interest is guarded like a gold coin inside Fort Knox.

Maybe the story line should be that yet again another example of over-educated people who spend their lives at universities may pose a danger to others? UNC had a grad student recently kill his professor.

“Did I mention he was a MENSA member and has a 47 page resume online that mentions every paper he ever wrote and every class he ever taught.”

FWIW, it has been noted in the field of pyschology that people who over-write long letters, manifestos, resume’s etc... demonstrate a trait that could be an indicator pointing towards delusional behaviour.

“He was so smart but went to Radford as an undergrad in the mid to late 70s? Something doesn’t add up with this guy.”

Wasn’t Radford in the 70s and all female college? It was a polytechnical college for women, that was the female version of Virginia Tech at the time.

The outdoor stadium at Radford bears the name Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium... sometimes referred to as home of the D. Cupp.
