Disturbing babycam footage shows a 13 year-old Florida honors student standing over his sleeping mom in her bed, moments before he allegedly murdered her.
Derek Rosa was seen in an eerie black and white image released by Miami-Dade District Attorney's Office Monday, looming over his 39 year-old mom Irina Garcia in her bed on the night of October 12.
The time stamp on the static image shows 11pm. Rosa called 911 to report the murder around 11:30pm.
His right arm appears to be moving in the image, although prosecutors have yet to provide further detail on what they allege is happening in the photo.
Another haunting photo released by investigators shows Garcia in her bed, cradling her 14-day-old baby, at 10:23pm the same evening. The bedroom light is on, meaning the image is in color.
Just an hour later Irina would be dead.
Other images released include a selfie Rosa is accused of sending a friend after the killing, with what appears to be blood smeared on his hands. Distressing images of a pink-handled knife covered with blood were shared too
Rosa has been charged as an adult over the murder. He has pleaded not guilty: his lawyers are yet to declare any mental illness defense.
No explanation has yet been given for the frenzied attack.
After the stabbing, he called 911 at around 11:30pm to report having just killed his mother, while his newborn baby sister slept in her crib nearby.
He told the operator that he stabbed his mother in her sleep, and that he was also contemplating suicide - but said he 'didn't want' to kill himself.

This is an unfathomable crime. Either mental illness or the mother sexually abused him. Can’t think of anything else that would provoke this.

You’re probably right, but these days I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something trivial, like his mom taking his cell or gaming console from him.
Something like this offer starts with abusing or killing animals.
Mom should have tanned this kids hide more often when he was little.
No such thing as a 13 year old Honors Student. More leftism feel-good, participation trophy, speak to make kids think they are all great.
She was stabbed to death. A bloody knife was found. He literally had blood on his hands. It was recorded on video. One has to wonder, what on Earth might he have been doing? It’s perplexing.

The boy was probably a member of MS-13.
The article mentions a step-father. So for one thing we might be looking at some blended family drama. Perhaps the teenager was jealous of the baby being blood kin to both parents. Perhaps the teenager was jealous of the step-father, as some boys are with a single mom who remarries. Or perhaps the biological father and his family were stirring up old divorce drama forcing the teenager to "pick sides".
And that's just potential blended family drama (and based on experiences from volunteering with youth and what goes through their minds when discussing their families and helping them see past what their mind "sees" when it tries to fill in gaps). No telling what else is going on.

They researched he was an honors student, but no mention of previous mental illness concerns.
Remarried mom, brand new half sibling, lack of attention, jealousy. Lots of things to pick over with this. Either way it’s just beyond evil.
Drugs causing a psychotic episode would be another good guess.
He’s only 13 and an honors student, so maybe less likely, but not unheard of. Maybe his first use of drugs and he got something laced with a psychotic agent.
Father of this boy appears to be missing from the story and is of a different race than the mother.
Step Dad in the picture, but who knows what kind of relationship he and the boy had?
Off-kilter teen boy jealous of ‘Mom’s New Family’ and feeling enraged at being replaced?
At least he didn’t harm the baby.
