and if the researchers don’t know the differences between sugar and hfcs I have doubts about either the study, or how it applies in the U.S. of A.

There is no practical difference between table sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. The offending ingredient is fructose, and both substances contain it in high quantities.
There is a big difference between table sugar (50% glucose, 50% fructose) and hfcs and how your body metabolizes them. Excess glucose is stored in the muscles as glycogen while excess fructose is stored as fat. I truly believe that obesity really became an issue when hfcs was introduced into everything.
