Exactly.
“Woke” became a common word five years ago thanks to John Ringo, an author I had never heard of before until then. He claimed that right-wing authors were being banned from attending certain conventions, and “Get Woke, Go Broke”, was his way of summing up what he claimed was happening.
I remember when “woke” was just a black thing. It meant that you had the magic ability to see every action of the government, every American institution, every employer, school, police force, media outlet, etc, as being part of a systemic conspiracy to oppress the black man.
Now it’s become an all encompassing “progressive” term.
Yes.
But more to the point it was a term used by social radicals — notably communists — to highlight the difference between themselves and those blacks they asserted were ‘asleep’.
Now its meaning has expanded to include more, but the same basic claim remains.
It is not a coincidence that it serves the Left exclusively.
What remains of the old extreme Left that is extreme to them anymore?
