OTOH, from some of the comments on this thread- Is it possible TPTB would release, or arrange, to have someone with a reputation as a nut job/conspiracy theorist, give out information that they want the public to automatically ignore/dismiss as conspiracy nonsense?

Benzos like midazolam and also morphine are commonly give for comfort to people that are actively dying.
Yes they cause respiratory depression and you may cling to life a little longer if you didn’t get them but if used appropriately then it’s not the same killing someone by an overdose.
I just had an 80 something year old woman with an aortic dissection and she wasn’t a surgical candidate. Her aorta was tearing and her life was measured in minutes to hours. She was aware enough that you could tell she was in pain. I let whatever family wanted to be with her stay at the bedside and loaded her up with ativan and morphine. Did I hasten her death? Probably but it’s not what killed her and hopefully she was more comfortable as she died.
