I don’t know much about her other than this song. Please explain.
Helen Reddy songs are what my wife calls “hive songs”. Same with Joan Baez, Captain and Tenille and almost all of the 70’s female singers.
I am Woman. Hear me roar. But treat me like a lady and open the door. I have the right to kill that you never will. I am Woman.
I remember a song parody of “I am Woman” in the 90’s during the Clinton/Gore years...(Hillary singing) “I am woman, hear me roar, I have more power than Al Gore”...
The beginning of the massive co-opting and capitalization of social issues in song and the marketing of social themes and outlooks. Many, many seventies songs reflected toned down, acceptable hippie mores. Examples, One toke over the line, In the Summertime, Afternoon delight, Escape(Pina colada song), etc.
Helen Reddy was capitalizing on the feminist trends of the time.
I remember that song from when Fox News Sunday was watchable in the 90s. Tony Snow was the host back then. Often an appropriate song was picked as a bumper between segments and that was used with videos of various women Bill Clinton abused.
