I left out a bowl one year. I taught in the school and lots of my past students would drop in to visit. That year I did leave a sign explaining I couldn't be there because I was in hospital visiting my mother. Asked them to please just take one bag so everyone got some. I was told the ne t day that it lasted for about an hour into Trick or Treat. One kid told me he actually stopped one kid to taking it all.
Only missed one other Halloween, but left the goodies at my SIL house. She gave them extra bag from me.
