Begonia are my favorites. I love the ‘Million Kisses’ variety in a pot on the porch in the summer months. I have a number of indoor cultivars that have become old friends. ;)

Great add! Thanks!

I have a pot of flat-leaf parsley that’s still going great guns. I think I’ll drag it into the greenhouse for a while and see how long I can still keep using it. Thanks for the reminder! :)

I can’t believe the Heat Wave you’re having! Is this normal?

We’re way below normal on temps, but my boys and I have gone ‘Trick or Treating’ in the SNOW a few times through the years.

You just adapt; it’s pretty normal for Wisconsin kids to have a snowmobile suit or a parka on over their costume, LOL!

Daniel! Diana Called it way back when you first asked! Those are Rudebeckia Daisys (var, Gloriosa)! You will see considerable variation in the coloring from flower to flower. As you read here they are an excellent drought resistant plant, not that that is an issue where you live.

Thanks and yes, I remember being told, and knew that they were daisies, but I actually posted in a rush and was actually looking for the names of those in the foreground. Should've been more prepared and provided a close up.

We have had some Thanksgivings with temps in the 70’s on occasion. From our weather met tonight: “We will be near record high temperatures on Sunday, the forecast high right now is 85 degrees and the record high for October 29th is 86 degrees, set back in 1984.”

I was in a sweat all day .... the air isn’t real humid, but that ‘crisp’ fall feel is gone.

Looks like my trip tomorrow isn’t going to happen so I can finish up the leaves. I was so whipped after doing 5 maple trees worth that I left the last 3 trees for another day. Mom came in from getting the mail and said “Wow - you REALLY worked today!” Duh ... I’ve been telling her all day when I came in for breaks what I was doing!

I did mow some tonight - side yard, around the garden, front field, upper entrance before I ran out of daylight. With tomorrow and Monday for working before the colder, rainy weather sets in, I should be in good shape as far as my ‘to do’ list that needs good weather.

Qiviut, enjoy it while you can, keep exercising and getting sun.

It was really warm in Kansas up until about 3 days ago. Thats gone. Rain is pulling down all the leaves from my Shademaster Locust tree.

Some light snow tomorrow. Freeze Sunday night, Upper 20s Monday morning. I have broccoli, lettuce and cauliflower in low tunnels. I think they’ll be fine. (I should plug in my 40F heat cables to give them a boost tomorrow.) Spent yesterday doing general car maintainance in preparation for winter.

Had a pumpkin that finally set fruit and its covered up in wet garden fabric. (Rouge Vif d’ Etamp) It’ll be gone. Supposed to get warmer next Thursday. I’ll work on cleaning out the basement and garage.

Well, I see a Columbine under a Becky, Strawberries, a Dandelion, and something spikey that has little leaves.

I did something yesterday that I thought was pretty brilliant. ;)

I harvested the lettuces and spinach that I had growing in large pots outside by cutting them off at the base, but not hurting the root structure. Those clippings went into the house for cleaning and packaging and eating this week.

I dug up the lettuce and spinach roots, re-potted them in various containers, then put them in flats in the greenhouse and I’m hoping they will regenerate and provide me with some more greens, to go with the flat of spinach and arugula I already have going in there. Overnight I cover them with lids and a blanket. It’s down into the 30’smost nights, now.

We shall see! :)

Thanks for the rutabaga reminder - I got hooked on them last fall, making French fries out of them. They had slipped my mind, but now they’re back!!

You are welcome!

This I like...." One medium rutabaga (386 grams) provides (1Trusted Source): Calories: 143 Carbs: 33 grams"

One 13 ounce rutabaga is only 143 calories and has 33 grams of Carbohydrate. Great if you are on keto or watching calories.

Hope you got a lot done today. Seems winter has arrived!

I was outside pretty much all day. It was sunny, with few clouds in the sky & warm - 86, which tied the record in 1984. It was quite breezy.

When I went out this morning, the areas where I had picked up leaves were covered again & with the breeze, leaves were cascading down. Rather than fighting the breeze trying to keep a tarp down & lugging it multiple times to the bin in the heat, I made the ‘executive’ decision that Cyde & I would ride all day. Tomorrow should have more clouds, at least 2 more trees should be almost bare by then, so doing leaves will be more productive.

Clyde (my JD 920) & I were out in the fields until about 5:30 and the entire farm is mowed - it was a great day to do it. This may be the last mowing the back fields need - we’ll see. The place looks like a park - I love it when it’s all mowed.

The first 3/4 of the day tomorrow will be good for working, then rain & much cooler temps - they will struggle to get to 50. I will have to get back on the leaf project tomorrow. I noticed the big pines (about 100 yo) are starting to drop their needles. The one pine, where I collect & bag needles for next year’s garden mulch, hasn’t started dropping yet, so I was able to mow the grass around it - easier to round up (with mower) & bag if the grass is short. Where the needles were down, it smells like turpentine when you mow through them. We also have wild mint under some of the cedar trees which smells delightful as it’s being mowed.

We have a preview of more winter-like conditions coming in tomorrow evening, then upper 60’s by the end of the week which isn’t too bad :-)

Your JD 920 sounds like it was named for one of these!

Yes, it was! The previous JD Zero Turn was a lighter ‘residential’ model. Being smaller, it was nimble & fast, a ‘race horse’. With all the acres I have to cut, the JD guys kept telling me I needed a commercial mower, thus the 920 ‘workhorse’ aka Clyde. The smaller mower ended up with my niece, who had more of a yard to mow rather than fields. Clyde is a much smoother ride and has a 60” deck, vs the smaller mower’s 48”.

25 degrees when I got up at 7am this morning. Frost on all the vehicles and the grass. After some in-town chores I think I’ll be dumping spent flower pots and planters and putting away my ‘Summer Stuff’ on the porch.

It’s time.

Some ‘mixed precip’ predicted for tomorrow. :(
