SpaceX Lands All 3 Falcon Heavy Boosters for the First Time
(Excerpt) Read more at youtube.com ...
If anyone has a link to a better vid of the landing, please post.
Guess I missed it too
Thanks
I think the recovery of these boosters with their vertical landing on a “postage stamp” pad is more impressive than the launch. Truly amazing!
the year....2019
Still it’s like something out of a 1950s movie. Just incredible.
What is it now ? :-)
Ah, heh, I’d immediately skipped to the launch and then the landing. So much for saving time. (eye roll)
I knew SpaceX had landed TWO boosters simultaneously quite some time back — guess I missed the 3 booster landing. (I did a search on FR, too, maybe didn’t go back far enough — was just going by the posting date on YT.)
Reminds me of George Pal's "Destination Moon," the first scientifically accurate SF movie I can recall, in which the rocket landed tailfins-down. Very similar in concept to Space X but much simplified.
For the first time in a long time I feel that science fiction is real. I remember back in 1974 in first grade looking at my lunchbox where Americans were on the moon shooting with ray guns at one some foreign bastards. It is 2023, where in the hell are our %#&@ ray guns?
All joking aside, when I watched that video from SpaceX, it was almost too futuristic to be real, like it was a special effects production .However, I know it’s real and I’m so excited for the future:
First grade in 1974??
Try first grade in 1959!
Damn I’m getting old.😞
Never thought a tail down landing would even be possible.
I recall a Saturday morning, back in the 90s while sitting on my throne, a huge couple of booms. Finished up an went outside....old neighbor hollered back at me, that was the shuttle! All I saw was a trail of whatever. It was very odd.
Anyways my hunting lease was off limits as debris was all over East Texas and Louisiana. Just very chilling. Just kinda freaked me out...
Moderator - please feel free to delete - turned out to be old news.
Oh, we have rayguns. But mostly we use them to ring up groceries and remove rust from cars.

Wow. I missed this launch and landing of 3 Boosters back in 2019.
Amazing. 2 Booster landings on land. 1 Booster on a Drone Ship.
Thx for posting.
The proof-of-concept for a craft taking off and landing on pure rocket thrust was the DC-X of the 1990s - a program that was killed off by the Clinton Administration in favor of Midnight Basketball Leagues.

The way they did it, since it was a successful program that was running on a shoestring budget and would have been very cheap access to space, was to give it to NASA and tell them that they were considering replacing the Shuttle with the Delta Clipper the DC-X was supposed to lead to. NASA was at the time actively sabotaging any program that looked like it would threaten their pwecious Shuttle, so they arranged an ‘accident’ and duly reported the concept as non-viable so it could be cancelled. They used FUD to kill the spiritual and not-so-spiritual descendant of DC-X, Rotary Rocket, as well as anything else that looked to be viable private space flight. NASA was quite happy.
And then Columbia disintegrated over Texas and the whole program basically died with it, deservedly. Now NASA has to buy rides to space on the spiritual descendants of the private spacecraft they so gleefully tried to kill for so long.
Also, FYI, the Columbia breakup in flight was in *2003.* Dunno what you saw in the 90s, but that wasn’t it.
Don’t remember, I’ve slept a few times since then....
I’m kinda old...
These booster landings never cease to amaze me.
Absolutely precision engineering and control system.
Elon Musk is an amazing engineer/designer.
Bear in mind, how large the NASA staff was in the early days of space travel. (pre computer, cedar pencil/slide rule days)
I remember the shift in phase during the Shuttle Missions. (I lived in NM then.) I remember listening to the up/down links from the shuttle via a Ham Radio repeater, linked into the Cactus Net; from the JPL in California. It was all smiles when we listened to that on a handi talkie in a restaurant in Deming NM. Pre Cell Phone and pre Internet.
“I’m getting old”
Ditto (I’m 75)
Bump!
