A Chicago alderman wants to fine parents of children he claims are 'out of control and cause 90 percent' of the city's problems up to $5,000.
Alderman Ray Lopez, a Democrat, is suggesting the new punishment, which would be partnered with 'licensed family counseling.'
'We have children who are out of control causing 90 percent of the problems, particularly as it relates to the street takeovers, drag racing and all of the other illegal activities,' Lopez said.
Video emerged of an incident from over the weekend as a flash mob that was part of a takeover sits on top of the Tesla and repeatedly bangs on it amid a drag race. Lopez directly cited the incident in his proposal.
Overall, crime is up 25 percent in Chicago year-over-year, according to the city's statistics.
Lopez wants the fines and counseling to apply to guardians 'willfully and/or knowingly allow a minor in their charge to engage in a host of offenses wreaking havoc on the quality of life in Chicago neighborhoods. Those offenses range from panhandling, underage and public drinking and cannabis use, violating curfew and 'climbing on' cars to street takeovers and drag racing.'
He told the Chicago Sun-Times that parents 'shall be held as responsible and accountable for the activity of said minor as if they committed the acts themselves.'
In the incident over the weekend, the Tesla driver - with his back window smashed out - then speeds up and appears to hit someone with their car as crowds of people smash the car's windows and side-view mirrors.
It is unclear why the car was specifically attacked, but there was car demonstrations going on during the time of the incident.
Chicago Police officers were on the scene along with groups of looters and spectators.

How about the kids forced 30 days picking up roadside garbage, or cleaning up public parks?
How are they going to fine people money they don’t have? The Democrats started this problem 6 decades ago with their “War on Poverty” programs. It has become progressively worse since 2020 and will continue to do so.
I don’t understand today’s parenting.
My parents raised five of us. We all went on to be successful adults with spouses and families of our own.
My husband and I have raised three children. They don’t smoke, do drugs, no baby mommas, and waited until they were of age to drink. None of them were ever arrested and all were known as the “good kids” in school. The biggest drama they ever caused was not doing chores in a timely manner. One graduated college and is married, one in college for microbiology, and one preparing for college, finishing his Senior year of high school.
Stealing, flash mobs, violence, destruction of property...that would cause dishonor to the family name. Maybe my stern warnings of, “We are (family name), we don’t behave that way,” made the difference. Maybe the emphasis on learning and personal development, pointing to our successful ancestors and relatives, made the difference. Maybe having God in our house made the difference.
Whatever these parents are doing isn’t working. If I disgraced the family name (bad grades, disrespectful behavior, criminal activity) my mother and father would have taken me behind the woodshed and my siblings would not have let me live it down.
The deadbeat dads - and the majority of them are - won't even be in the picture.

The "moms and pops" will simply say (via taxpayer paid lawyers) that they had no knowledge of what their precious youngsters were doing, so the fine wouldn't apply to them.
As always, liberals are treating the symptom instead of the disease.

The culture represented here doesn’t have kids to love and raise them. They have kids to boost their welfare payments. They don’t give a rats ass about those kids.
How about just arresting and jailing the offenders instead?
