CVS announces it will close THREE HUNDRED stores by the end of 2024 and 600 more by 2027 - 10% of the chain's stores

As it moves to an online strategy amid rampant increase in shoplifting CVS is making drastic reforms to adjust to the needs of modern online shoppers Rival Walgreens also plans to shut 150 stores as part of a modernization drive

CVS is set to close hundreds of stores across the country as they undergo a complete retail overhaul – as more stores move towards online sellers amid rampant increases in crime.

The major drugstore chain has announced that they will be culling 300 stores by the end of 2024, and 600 more by 2027, around ten percent of all shops.

In the announcement, they said that they were undergoing a new 'retail footprint strategy', as retailers across the US struggle to adjust to post-pandemic footfall.

More shoppers are turning to buying online in the wake of the pandemic, as well as rocketing levels of shoplifting affecting sales in stores.

CVS claims that 'local market dynamics, population shifts, and a community's store density' are some of the aspects they have looked into when deciding which stores to shutter.

'We remain focused on the competitive advantage provided by our presence in thousands of communities across the country, which complements our rapidly expanding digital presence.'

The company confirmed that they are pushing to turn more of its stores into healthcare destinations in an attempt to drum up more claims for its insurance business.

It is also working to expand the HealthHub business, despite investigators finding in June that the company failed to provide proper interpretation services for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing during their appointments with medical staff.

The Department of Justice and CVS came to a settlement agreement that requires the company to change its policies.

Just a hunch, but I’m guessing they won’t be closing any in my area.

The whole shop for free gained steam during the Great Recession. I took part in it. Every week at CVS there were things like Colgate toothpaste and deodorant that you could get for FREE. There is still a website called:
www.iheartcvs.com that shows you all the items coming up in the sale flyers you can get for Free or almost free with a coupon.

You had to have a CVS card to get the FREE coupons that print out of the machine in the store. Plus there were coupons in the inserts in the Sunday newspapers. Some people had hundreds of the same coupon. I think they got them from working at a newspaper or dumpster diving behind the newspaper printing building.

They would then SELL these coupons on EBAY. There was this one company called Marcal that made toilet paper and paper towels. They had a $1.00 coupon they kept putting out. It allowed you to get one roll of paper towels or four rolls of toilet paper for free.
I started buying these coupons for $.08/piece. Eventually they got up to $.25/pc on EBAY.
I used to call the local grocery store and tell the manager I was coming in to buy 5 boxes. one box of TP. Four boxes(24 rolls of paper towels. At one point I had a couple years worth of TP and Paper towels in my garage.

I learned most of the tricks from a website run buy a lady out of MA called www.howtoshopforfree.com

There were a lot of people doing this. Some were selling the items at flea markets. Others were making gift boxes and sending them to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“I went into a CVS not too long ago. I couldn’t believe how expensive their prices were.”

Yep, it seems a strange way to position themselves: “Empty stores due to super-high prices”.

I guess now it will be: “Fewer empty stores due to super-high prices”.

Might as well have Bud Lite give them advice, couldn’t hurt.

Previously posted but apt: I recall stopping in a CVS in Hampton, Virginia. When I entered, I noticed that everyone else in the store, shoppers and employees, was black. Hampton, apparently is a black town. Virginia is sort of segregated like that. I didn't want to turn around and walk out, so I completed my purchase. I wish I could say that I was treated courteously, but at least no one hassled me. No Lula, [obscure To Kill a Mockingbird reference] but I did get some hard stares from an old lady auditioning for Lula's role.

I think they have over saturated the market. Here in NH there are CVS stores everywhere. They are based out of MA.

When I was taking a daily statin I ordered them online from TelMed. Now there is GoodRx which shops the price for prescription drugs for you. It was cheaper then going to the local stores.

I think CVS is going to drop down to the stores where they have the Nurse in the store. I used one last year when I had a sinus infection and did not want to wait for a Dr appt.

A lot of people are getting their
meds online and shipped through the
mail or UPS, myself included (insulin)
rather than using prescrip dept/drive
thru at a Walgreens or CVS. But still
need to go to a drugstore (or dept
store medical dept) for vitamins, etc

Of course there’s a different type
of stealing when people order
stuff by mail—”porch pirates” who
grab delivered packages.

USPS (my employer) processes thousands
of pills/medicines. Although I use
Walgreens for some of my medicines,
CVS handles prescrip drugs through
the federal Blue Cross system.
So CVS does do some medicine that
way.

Shutting down 10% makes sense, CVS is on every corner and I’m sure they are having difficulty staffing them.

“…what is propelling this sudden “rampant increase.” ??”

Seriously? Are yo Rip van Winkel?
1. Soros DAs, progressive mayors, and progressive city councils saying laws are racist and a white construct.
2. “Defund the police” decimated city PDs. Cops have stood down because they know they will go to jail for small mistakes. The policing reputations of big cities are now so bad they cannot hire good recruits.
3. Feds telling states their prisons are too crowded and they must let “non-violent” criminals go free
4. State initiatives to decriminalize theft below $1,000
5. A non-existent southern border floods the USA with Chinese and Mexican dope. Addicts must feed a cocaine, opioid, fentanyl, and heroin habit at $1,000 a week habit via thievery.

All the drug stores lock up the expensive items even here in NH where there is almost zero crime. Gillette razor blades, perfume and other expensive small items have been locked for years.

In my tiny town CVS came and built a new store on the opposite corner from the fairly new Walgreens. That is not a formula for success in a town of 5,000.

Put it somewhere else to more convenient to some of the population. Compete with the 25 mile distant Walmart by going to that end of town you go through going to Walmart. Get some sense.

And a lot of drug insurance requires mailed prescriptions, so even less reason to go in.

Yeah frequently there’s an attitude, but just the other day I was in line at my grocery store customer service counter and as I walked up the young black woman said cheerily hello beautiful how can I help you? Refreshingly nice people still exist here and there and it makes your day brighter with just that little kindness.

Lots of theft in my suburban area

Demographics are what you might imagine

Across the spectrum

Lots of fast food just can’t keep people

After working with the public during COVID-19(84) I never want to do it again. EVER.

Absolutely. I try to treat people as individuals, not the incarnation of racial, sex, ethnic or national stereotypes. I know it's wrong, but I can't help myself, it's the way I was raised.

“I think the true state if the economy is being covered up.”

Right you are.

I’ve been saying that we’ve been in a recession for 2 1/2yrs; now we’re headed into a depression, though probably not as bad as 1929, but a depression, nonetheless. The corrupt DNC-media has been covering it up, along with the corrupt govt spokesmouths, for years, lying with statistics and ‘muffling’ those reporters who want the true stats.

“The most insidious power the media has, is the power to ignore.” — Chris Plante, WMAL, DC
