Used to be brakes, water pumps, then timing chains, serpentine belts, a/c’s but it was in the 100’s for inevitable total cost of ownership. Even transmission, especially for Fords, could dependably need major rebuild or replacement at some point. But that was 3-4k.
When these electrical pig-in-a-pokes need a new battery it will be a whole new family meeting. The emergency/ car maintenance fund won’t keep up. And the Federal Climate Emergency subsidies will be gone and back to their rightful place financing liberal elites’ dwellings in the Hamptons and pedo-(va)cationing.
Things that can’tgo on forever, Don’t.
At this point, given the horrible car market, if my car’s transmission is shot, I’ll just fork over the 3 to 4 k, because that’s much better than selling the house to replace a vehicle.
It is not just the ongoing cost of en ev for a 10 to 15 yr lifecycles. What is staggering is the tutcurrent up front cost. 50k to 80k depending on the model
Whoever is buying these things must have disposable income. The cars are also on the small side imho.
My wife has an older lady that works in her department. Her two “medical professionals” daughters a dentist and doctor pushed her and her husband to buy a hybrid and they did. Well it’s time to replace the battery on a four or five year old car and the cost is $20K otherwise the car is fine and well taken care of but not worth $20K, so they are trying to trade it and they are offering them near nothing for it.
The lady told my wife, no more hybrids and no electric cars and those stinking covid shots are done as well, the girls can get over it, they were so wrong.
Plus...you could open the hood, look down thru the engine compartment...and see the ground.
