That's for sure. General anesthesia has been described as "killing you just enough", and there's an old medical saying that you don't pay the anesthesiologist to put you to sleep, you pay him to wake you back up.
I still don't want to undergo surgery without anesthesia, though.
The post surgery effects of general anesthesia are grossly underestimated. My oncologist acquaintance says he would not ride in a car, get surgery from or even have his taxes done by a person who had major surgery under a general anesthetic in the past month.
