The Defense Forces repelled more than 10 Russian attacks in Klishchiivka and more than ten attacks in Marinka (both in Donetsk Oblast) on Saturday.

SOURCE: General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook, information as of 20:00 on 16 September

DETAILS: During the day, 30 combat clashes were recorded. Russia launched eight missile strikes and more than 50 airstrikes and carried out 22 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements. The civilian population of Kharkiv suffered from missile strikes.

There are dead and wounded among the civilians due to Russian terrorist attacks. Over 15 private residential buildings, a secondary school, and other civilian infrastructure facilities were destroyed and damaged.
The operational situation in Ukraine’s east and south remains difficult.

On the VOLYN and POLISSIA fronts, the operational situation has not changed significantly. There were no signs of forming offensive groups. Certain units of the Armed Forces of Belarus perform tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

On the SIVERSHCHYNA and SLOBOZHANSHCHYNA fronts, Russia maintains a military presence in the border areas and continues attacking settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation. The occupiers carried out airstrikes near Stepka (Sumy Oblast), Mala Vovcha, and Pletenivka (Kharkiv Oblast). Artillery and mortar attacks were carried out on more than 20 settlements, including Halahanivka, Chernihiv Oblast; Rudak, Seredyna-Buda, Bachivsk, Sadky, and Riasne, Sumy Oblast and Strilecha, Hatysche, and Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast.

On the KUPIANSK front, Russia launched air strikes near Synkivka and Kopanka, Kharkiv Oblast. Russia fired artillery and mortars at the settlements of Fyholivka, Lyman Pershyi, Petropavlivka, Zapadne, and Kindrashivka, Kharkiv Oblast.

On the LYMAN front, Russia did not conduct any offensive actions. Airstrikes hit areas of the settlements of Novoiehorivka and Nevske (Luhansk Oblast), and Serebrianka and Spirne (Donetsk Oblast). Artillery and mortar attacks affected more than ten settlements, including Nevske and Bilohorivka, Luhansk Oblast and Dronivka, Siversk, and Verkhnokamianske, Donetsk Oblast.

On the BAKHMUT front, the Defence Forces repelled more than 10 Russian attacks in Klishchiivka, Donetsk Oblast. Russia tried to restore the lost position in Kurdiumivka and Andriivka, Donetsk Oblast. Russia launched an airstrike near Klishchiivka, Donetsk Oblast. More than 20 settlements were under artillery and mortar fire, including Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Kurdiumivka, Donetsk Oblast.

On the AVDIIVKA front, Russia conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in Sieverne, Donetsk Oblast. Avdiivka and Sieverne, Donetsk Oblast, were hit by air strikes. About ten settlements were affected by artillery and mortar attacks, including Oleksandropil, Keramik, Stepove, Avdiivka, Nevelske, and Pervomaise in Donetsk Oblast.
On the MARINKA front, our defenders successfully repelled more than 10 Russian attacks near Marinka during the day.

Russia launched an air strike near Krasnohorivka, Donetsk Oblast. About ten settlements were under artillery and mortar fire from Russians, including Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Pobieda, Konstiantynivka, and Yelyzavetivka, Donetsk Oblast.
On the SHAKHTARSK front, the village of Staromaiorske, Donetsk Oblast, was attacked by Russian air strikes. About ten settlements were affected by artillery and mortar attacks, including Vyhledar, Bohoiavlenka, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, and Urozhaine in Donetsk Oblast.
On the ZAPORIZHZHIA front, Russia launched air strikes in the areas of the settlements of Svitla Dolyna, Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv and Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Artillery and mortar attacks were carried out on over 20 settlements, including Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, Pavlivka, Kamianske, and Stepnohirsk, Zaporizhia Oblast.
On the KHERSON front, Russia launched air strikes in the settlements of Beryslav and Lvove, Kherson Oblast. Russian artillery and mortar attacks were carried out on about ten settlements, including Antonivka and Kherson in Kherson Oblast.

At the same time, the Defence Forces of Ukraine continue to conduct an offensive operation on the Melitopol front, taking offensive action on the Bakhmut front, killing Russians and liberating the occupied territories step by step. Our soldiers have succeeded in Klishchiivka, Donetsk Oblast, thanks to the results of their offensive actions.

Russian occupation forces are quartered in private buildings of residents in some settlements of the Berdiansk district of Kherson Oblast. At the same time, they increasingly resort to a practice of leaving private buildings after filtration measures and forcibly relocating residents to several families in one private building.

During the day, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out two strikes on command posts, 12 – on the clusters of Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment, and another 5 – on Russian anti-aircraft missile systems.

Units of Rocket Forces and Artillery hit three Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems and five Russian artillery systems.

Our task is to provide Ukraine with all the opportunities to produce weapons and ammunition to have reliable protection against aggression – address of the President
President of Ukraine Official Website
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
16 September 2023 - 18:50
https://www.president.gov.ua/en/news/nashe-zavdannya-dati-ukrayini-vsi-mozhlivosti-viroblyati-zbr-85669

I wish you good health, dear Ukrainian men and women!
Today is a meaningful day – we are preparing for a strong second half of September. Strong in terms of our international work with partners and the decisions we are implementing here in Ukraine.

Dozens of negotiations have already been planned, and there is a clear schedule of meetings.

There will also be clear and specific results.
Another important point to mention.
We are continuing to prepare for the Defense Industries Forum, the first event of its kind to take place in Ukraine. It will happen this autumn.

Interest in the Forum is very high. This fully reflects Ukraine’s strength and potential – our ability to defend ourselves and help other countries preserve freedom and international order... Already, 86 leading defense companies from around the world – representing 21 countries – have confirmed their participation in the Forum.

Our task is absolutely clear – to provide Ukraine with all the opportunities to produce weapons and ammunition, to provide modern technology to have reliable protection against any form of aggression. Moreover, of course, to share our defense experience among allies and partners. The world must be stronger than any threat to life from aggressors or terrorists.

This week, we have made significant progress in implementing existing defense agreements and other support packages.
Denmark – thank you for the new defense package, which is already the 12th package. Equipment, ammunition, and missiles for our air defense. Germany – thank you for the new batch of military aid. Belgium – your participation in our pilot training is approved. Thank you! Norway – your decision to provide additional funding for Ukraine’s recovery. It’s crucial. Thank you! South Korea – thank you for the new financial support agreement! The United States – the new sanctions decision to limit Russia’s ability to engage in terror. Thank you!

And, of course, our warriors. All brigades and units currently in combat.

Kharkiv, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson regions. And those who have already achieved important results for Ukraine this week, and those who, I am confident, are preparing to contribute to Ukraine’s success.
Thank you! We are all proud of our warriors and are committed to strengthening our defense and security forces!

Glory to Ukraine!

How did Ukrainian forces manage to pull off a complex and dangerous amphibious raid into the western part of the Crimean Peninsula? And how might it have paved the way for Ukraine’s major strike on the headquarters of Russia’s Black sea fleet in s evastopol? On August 24th a few hundred elite commandos arrived on shore via speed boats. They targeted the Russian Nebo-M and Kasta 2E2 Radar stations that monitor from Crimea to Kherson, detecting aircraft, drones and incoming missiles. Destruction of these radar assets are key to opening up a gap for future missile strikes here. I guess that’s one way to avoid all the Russian landmines, just motorboat your way around it.

Head of Sputnik expelled from Moldova turns out to be Russian officer and native of Ukraine
Ukrainska Pravda
KATERYNA TYSHCHENKO
Saturday, 16 September 2023, 20:39
https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/09/16/7420132/

Vitalii Denysov, the head of Sputnik Moldova news agency, expelled from Moldova on 13 September, is a senior Russian officer and a native of Ukraine.

SOURCE: The Insider

DETAILS: As the outlet found out, Denysov is probably a personnel officer of the 72nd Special Service Center (military unit 54777), who, in the interests of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (GRU) is engaged in information dumping and disinformation to foreign audiences.

Denysov was born in Zakarpattia Oblast and, after school, entered the Lviv Higher Military-Political School, where organisers of cultural and educational work and military journalists were trained.

Later, Lviv Higher Military-Political School, where Denysov studied, was renamed the Academy of Ground Forces of Ukraine. In July this year, the Russian army attacked the academy building with Kalibr missiles and destroyed one of the buildings.

In 1992, cadet Denysov refused to take the oath to Ukraine and, together with other school refusers, moved to Moscow.

There he was accommodated not far from the headquarters of the GRU in an officer’s dormitory at 38 Khoroshevskoe Highway) The tax database confirms that he was listed as an employee of the main printing body of the Ministry of Defence of the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.

In 2005, the department granted him an apartment on Admiral Lazarev Street and another officer’s license from the Ministry of Defence.

In 2013, Denysov worked in the Main Investigation Department in Moscow Oblast.

The Insider’s source at the Ministry of Defence reported that Denysov moved from the Investigation Department to the 72nd Special Service Center (military unit 54777). This centre collects and analyses information from the GRU residencies abroad and also deals with fake information.
In 2016, officer Denysov was awarded the rank of Colonel of the Airborne Forces, and in 2019 he was appointed editor-in-chief of Sputnik in the non-recognised South Ossetia. After that, he headed Sputnik in Baku.

In 2022, Colonel Denysov was sent to Chisinau to gather information and promote a pro-Kremlin agenda, but after the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, internet sites and the local Sputnik broadcast were blocked.

REMINDER:
• On 13 September, Vitalii Denysov, Russian propagandist and the head of Sputnik Moldova, was expelled from the country. This decision was explained by his interference in the internal affairs of Moldova.

• The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia summoned the temporary representative of Moldova in Moscow in connection with the deportation of Denysov.

Ukraine can count on support of the Netherlands in returning home Ukrainian children forcibly deported to Russia – Andriy Yermak based on the results of the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Netherlands within Bring Kids Back UA project
16 September 2023 - 00:12
https://www.president.gov.ua/en/news/ukrayina-mozhe-rozrahovuvati-na-pidtrimku-niderlandiv-u-pove-85657

Six children who returned to Ukraine after being forcibly deported by Russia met with European leaders in The Hague to tell their stories in person and draw attention to Russia’s violations of children’s rights.

The children were accompanied by a Ukrainian delegation, which included Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights and Children’s Rehabilitation Daria Herasymchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Netherlands Oleksandr Karasevych, and co-founder of the Orphans Feeding Foundation Mariam Lambert.

The two-day event in the Netherlands was organized within the framework of the Bring Kids Back UA action plan approved by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, part of which is the Stolen Voices information campaign, with the support of the Orphans Feeding Foundation.

As part of its mission, the Ukrainian delegation provided information on the forced displacement of Ukrainian children by the Russian Federation, including the mechanisms behind Russia’s international crime. Representatives of the Dutch side personally heard the terrible stories of the forced deportation of six children.

The meetings were held by Mrs. Hanke Bruins Slot, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, and representatives of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Dutch Parliament.

Speaking with the Ukrainian delegation, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Hanke Bruins Slot announced the intention of the Netherlands to support Ukraine in a new project on family reunification using DNA. Using express DNA tests, the Netherlands aims to help Ukraine create a DNA database that will allow to quickly establishing the family ties of children abducted by Russia and facilitate their return to their families as soon as possible.

“The full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine has led to massive violations of fundamental rights and the spread of illegal deportation and abduction of our children,” Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak said. “Our goal is to completely stop the forcible deportation of our children to Russia and take all necessary steps for their safe return home.

Ukraine needs the support of allies and partners to return every child to their homeland. Today, these are our Ukrainian children, tomorrow they could be yours,” the head of the Office of the President added.
“No one in the world has the right to destroy a peaceful and happy childhood. Let me remind you that only 386 children were returned to Ukraine, and over 19,500 children are waiting for our help. It is necessary to respond urgently to this terrible situation in a joint and effective way,” Advisor, President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights and Children’s Rehabilitation, coordinator of Bring Kids Back UA Daria Herasymchuk.

Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets stated: “We are in the process of developing a mechanism for the return of Ukrainian children. This involves verifying and updating data on deported children, documenting crimes committed by Russia, and proposing practical actions for individual countries to facilitate the return of specific children or groups of children. We continue to identify new cases of forced displacement and deportation of Ukrainian children by the Russian Federation. Those responsible will be held accountable for their actions under the law, and Ukrainian children will be reunited with their families.”

“The Orphans Feeding Foundation has been supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and supporting Bring Kids Back UA is our absolute priority. We are cooperating with the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Ombudsman of Ukraine to find and return the children, and to raise awareness on this topic so that these crimes are recognized by international institutions. Our goal is to make the voices of Ukrainian children heard,” Mariam Lambert, co-founder of the Orphans Feeding Foundation, said.

“Any country, organization or individual can join the implementation of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative within the framework of the action plan. We are grateful to many of our friends in the Netherlands who joined the mission of protecting the rights of Ukrainian children and reuniting them with their families. After the productive meetings in
The Hague, we are confident that this circle of friends will expand,” Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Chief Operating Officer of Bring Kids Back UA Daria Zarivna said.

Russia already spent over US$167 billion on war against Ukraine – Forbes
Ukrainska Pravda
KATERYNA TYSHCHENKO
Saturday, 16 September 2023, 23:22
https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/09/16/7420143/

In a year and a half since the start of its full-scale invasion, Russia spent about US$167.3 billion on the war against Ukraine, of which US$34 billion worth of equipment were destroyed by Ukraine’s Armed Forces alone.

SOURCE: Forbes calculations based on data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

DETAILS: According to Forbes, Russia spends about US$300 million a day on its war against Ukraine.

Direct military spending and the cost of Russia’s lost equipment over 18 months of the war (from 24 February 2022 to 24 August 2023) is about US$167.3 billion. This estimate does not include constant defence spending not related to military operations, as well as economic losses of the aggressor country.

The largest items of expenditure: ensuring military operations (US$51.3 billion), salaries of the servicemen (US$35.1 billion), compensation to the families of the dead (US$25.6 billion) and wounded (US$21 billion) and the cost of destroyed equipment (US$34 billion).

After the rapid fall of the ruble, the “cost” of the Russian soldier for the budget of the Russian Federation decreased significantly. If for 2022 the total payments per one serviceman were about US$200 per day, now it is about US$120 per day.

Also, with the fall of the ruble, the cost of compensation to the military in US dollars decreased significantly. If at the rate of 60 rubles/$ the cost of compensation to the family of the deceased in the Russian Federation was about US$110,000, now it is only about US$65,000. The amount of compensation to the wounded, respectively, decreased from US$45,000 to US$27,000.

However, the level of Russian losses in recent months has remained at a significantly higher level than last year, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Accordingly, Russia is forced to spend more on compensation to the families.

The main item of expenditure of the Russian Federation on the war in Ukraine is ammunition and military support of the army. The total cost of this is US$51.34 billion. At the same time, the Russians spent over US$9 billion on providing for Russian artillery in a year and a half of the great war.
The total cost of missiles fired on the territory of Ukraine has already reached a hefty sum of more than US$21.1 billion.

As I have pointed out many times, you have absolutely no interest in anything that is “destroying our nation financially”.

If you did you would be chasing these categories down, in order of the most significant to the least. In all of FR I may be the only guy, over the years, who has gone deep into the most significant.

I can only conclude that people like you dont really give a @#%&.

Ukrainian forces have achieved a significant milestone by breaking through Russia’s initial defensive barrier near Zaporizhzhia. This comes after weeks of extensive mine clearance efforts. Brig Gen Oleksandr Tarnavskiy, the commanding general of the southern counteroffensive, shared some insights into this achievement. The Ukrainian forces are now expanding their presence on both sides of this breach and securing the territory they’ve acquired in recent combat. It’s a significant step forward in their mission. He estimated that Russia allocated the majority of its time and resources, roughly 60%, to constructing the first defensive line, with only about 20% each allocated to the second and third lines, primarily due to Moscow’s underestimated expectations of Ukrainian forces breaking through.
