An ocean drone launched from St. Petersburg into Hurricane Idalia. Here’s what it saw.

Shaped like a sailboat and stretching 23 feet long, the unmanned research vehicle, dubbed a saildrone, was a long way from its home in St. Petersburg. Roughly 200 nautical miles from Idalia’s eye on Aug. 29, as an angry sea tossed and toiled, the vehicle began recording video.

...What happens at the surface, where the wind meets water? Saildrone is now working directly with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to answer that question.

From the linked article: "Hurricane Idalia rapidly intensified from 75 mph to 130 mph before landfall as it churned toward the Big Bend, and there’s a growing body of research showing that rapid intensification is happening more often with climate change."

Sigh... please identify for me all of the historical instances of rapid intensification ... or are they simply assuming that its happening more often since we don't have reliable records before the era or hurricane hunters and modern weather satellites?

My dad was on a light cruiser from 1939-1945 in the Pacific and the Atlantic, he described some incredible storms and waves.

It's very windy and very wet.

it looks like what one would expect in a windy rainy storm. people can stand by their door or window and record similar, camera moving due to wind.

waste of money and time. just send the weather people out like they usually do. they get real footage and when it doesn’t look serious enough they fake it too.

Waves towering nearly 23 feet tall rolled violently as Idalia’s winds gusted to nearly 100 mph.

Could've been worse.

By "Growing body of evidence" they mean the same lie repeated by more and more people.

—”Suitable for framing.”

Perhaps for those fully adapted to cellphone use?

I tend to prefer the size used by Jackson Pollock.
Not so much his content but the frame size.
