We did a glacier tour out of Whittier on about a 250 person catamaran in Alaska in late May. Yes, they fished a chunk of ice out of the water and did this. It was no big deal.

On the Alaska whale watching cruise I took recently, the crew fished chunks of broken off ice from the nearby glaciers from the water for this very reason. The ice is going to melt anyway. Do the enviro-wackos think using natural ice is any different than using the ice from the freezer? It’s actually more climate-friendly because you aren’t using electricity to freeze it in the first place!

We did that in Iceland. Cleaned up the ice and used it in our drinks. 10000 year old ice too! It was crystal clear and very cold.

I would only use this ice in a drink with a large concentration of alcohol. Too many ancient bacteria and viruses. This is how the zombie apocalypse will begin.
Google says icebergs contain ancient viruses and bacteria. I don’t know if that’s in the upper layers, or just in the depths.
