“While establishing a clear link between sugar-sweetened drinks and liver disease, the results of this study indicate that the consumption of artificially sweetened drinks is not significantly associated with liver cancer or chronic liver disease mortality.”
Despite burying this significant piece of information deep within the article, the major point should have been that carbohydrates are the culprit — and not the “sweetness” of the food or drink. And it is not that artificial sweeteners are consumed in such miniscule amounts as to have virtually zero metabolic impact — so much as it was that previous studies trying to implicate artificial sweeteners were provided in huge doses equivalent to the consumption of 100+ cans of diet soft drinks — which is virtually impossible for any human to consume on a daily basis. However, the FDA ruling was that if a product could be implicated in ANY amount — even an impossible amount, it could be labeled as cancer-causing.
So there is very real harm done by the vested interests in fundraising for their particular diseases — not to get to the root of the metabolic syndromes — caused by the overconsumption or intolerance to carbohydrates which affect the blood sugar and insulin levels that wreak havoc on the human body in the multiplicity of comorbidities that make one susceptible to further compromise and complications.
Just the simple switch from carbohydrates (sugars) to zero carbohydrates (artificial sweeteners) would make a huge impact on eliminating at least half of the metabolic diseases — beginning with obesity. That’s more than half the battle. That is the greatest reward to risk.
