I knew of multiple people that got drunk and smoked everyday and lived into their 90’s.
I know of multiple people dead in their 20’s and 30’s.

Genetics plays a big role.

There are a couple of interesting genetic variations that are being studied for fatty liver disease. I have several of them.

And while it is true that they really aren’t sure how this plays out we can see what happened with me. I had fatty liver disease. It mysteriously disappeared. I had only lost a small amount of weight in between but I have variations that have an effect on how I process fat. So Doctors have theorized that my genetic variations gives an exaggerated effect on fatty liver disease. However there is no way to know because there are other factors that might have also contributed to the mysterious disappearance.

It is all a crapshoot.
