Not off to a good start.
A brand-new, self-driving shuttle bus suddenly crashed into another carrier in Orlando, Fla. — just two days after the shuttle service officially hit the streets.
The SWAN shuttle — short for Shuttling with Autonomous Navigation — collided with a full-size bus in the city’s downtown area Tuesday, cops said.
The crash was caught on camera by a passenger testing out the city’s hyped new service.

ROTFL! Somewhere there is an AMERICAN shuttle driver standing in an unemployment line so he can buy some food for his family.
The bus was seeking its own kind.
It’s not what the headline suggests. Watching the video, it’s clear the idiot driver of the big city bus sideswiped the smaller shuttle vehicle. It was not a failure of the autonomous driving system.
I’m not an apologist for the self-driving vehicles — I don’t think they are ready for prime time. But, in this case, the human driver of the other vehicle screwed up.
FTA —> “the regular city bus, known as LYMMO, appears to pull in front of them to turn — swiping the side of the shuttle bus in the process.”
Great picture there. “Beep” printed on the windshield of the shuttle and “Be Hopeful” printed on the side of the large size bus. At least the ahos coming up with this stuff have a sense of humor.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to launch a driverless vehicle in FLORIDUH needs to find a new day job.
Well, that’s a lot better than crashing on the first day!! :-)
Typical filthy, negative reporting from the NY Post. The Post ignores the one day when the driverless bus didn’t hit anything, and instead focuses on the day when it crashed.
(I say this hoping the bus company will see my comments, and pay me big money to be their spokesman.)
“Whoever thought it was a good idea to launch a driverless vehicle in FLORIDUH needs to find a new day job.”
The human driver caused the accident.
Driverless vehicles can’t help it if the actual human driver of another vehicle hits it.
In THIS case there would not have been an accident if OTH vehicles were driverless.
It’s new technology, and it’s safe enough to put onto streets, but like anything new you cannot wait until its absolutely perfect before it’s release or nothing would get released.
Yeah, watched the video ... bus drivers act like they are the most important vehicles on the road and get quite pissy when some other vehicle is in the bus loading zone. He just did what he always does and cut off the autonomous bus and since he did not fully get in front of it the autonomous bus did not sense it in time to stop. My guess is that bus driver is gonna be unemployed soon and new regs will come out for bus drivers that you cannot cut in front of autonomous vehicles.
Bus drivers crash all the time. Remember the goal isn’t perfection (well eventually hopefully maybe) it’s just being better than people.
Driving in Floriduh requires outsmarting the Q-tips and other incapable humans operating vehicles and bicycles.
Pedestrian in critical condition after being hit by Lynx bus in Orlando, police say

The SWAN shuttle was stopped when the bus moved intro the lane. The shuttle began moving and ran into the side of the bus. A human driver would have stayed stationary with a bus moving into the lane ahead. The Autonomous shuttle was at fault for hitting the bus.
This is the main reason why driverless vehicles will never be a real thing long term. They will make mistakes, people will get hurt, and then these companies will be sued into oblivion and go out of business. It is also why we will never see true drone delivery or pizza delivery, etc in autonomous vehicles. TOO much liability.
In the U.S. at least.
I live in the Orlando area. The local city and county bus drivers are hot-footed maniacs.
Maybe time for a new keyword: floridabus
