Lots of war and history documentaries for free on Tubi TV. Much Hitler, Nazis, World Wars, Germany, Russia. The usual big draws.
If Hitler had gotten into the Arts Academy, or some other art school, would he have turned out the way he did? I heard that he always wanted to go his own way and thought he was smarter than his teachers, so maybe he wouldn’t have lasted in art school and would have ended up back in the homeless shelters. If WWI never happened, though, Hitler wouldn’t have become what he became.
“If Hitler had gotten into the Arts Academy, or some other art school, would he have turned out the way he did?”
I used to hear a mere kid in the NYC subways playing empty plastic paint drums, and he started out already phenomenal at 12, but by the time he hit 20 he was awesome, and handsome as all hell, his hands moving in a blur over his paint drums, and talking about how he’s got a scholarship to a music academy, one of the big ones.
Hitler would have made it in art school, even with little or no talent, and he could have just splashed some sh!t on canvas and been called Avant Garde. Some of these so-called artists, had circumstances been different, might have become Hitlers. Their world-view’s already offensive enough.
I think it was his World War I experiences that shaped Hitler, particularly his hatred for the political class.
Definitely so— because there would have been no out of work German veterans of WWI, and inflation to the point of a billion DeutschMarks for a loaf of bread. Wheelbarrels full of paper money worthless.
There would not have been the German Army derived Free Corps which became the Sturmabteilung (S.A.) Brownshirts which were put on a payroll from the German govt, and who numbered 2 million plus— who then stole away Communists (who outnumbered the NSDAP Nazis, and who had nearly identical political platforms. Labor and bread etc.) William Shirer examines Joseph Goebbels who was an ardent Bolshevik and advocated the Nazis and Communists (both Socialist Leftist groups) join together. An amazing chapter in his masterpiece book. Europe was falling apart from before WWI and the war didn’t help or decide much except getting rid of nearly all the monarchies- The Fall of the Eagles.
The Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich— bio on hitler points out he failed to get into the Arts Academy because he had no artistic talent— as you said, smarter than his teachers, and later on he was “smarter” the the professional Prussian generals who were winning, and told them he didn’t go to any military academy but he’d.. “read Clausewitz” . What a horrible con artist, and lunatic.
