I’ve sern a Red-Shafted Flicker sitting on top of one of these dishes, using it the way they use dead trees to advertise their presence. It sure was loud in the focal direction.

We have a woodpecker who hammers on the metal roof for a week or so several times per year. Eeeow, it's loud. So, we hang a couple of these balloons to keep him away. Works like a charm.
