Oh, I agree. I have a rare blood type A- - and my dad needed lots and lots of blood (before he finally died). We had the same blood type so I was able to donate to him. No one else in my extended family, including my own children have this particular blood type.

I was grateful for the people who came forward to donate - they had to search around the state for the blood. I always think of this - and wish to “pay it forward” - which I have.

I had bilateral knee replacement last September. They took some of my blood prior to the surgery, just in case. The Doc said there are fewer complications that way. I just thought it was a common practice. This was the first surgery I ever had.

No...my hub tried to give HIS blood to a friend for heart surgery...both A-...he was told it just went in the “pool”
