A dying 10-year-old whose last wish was to get married 'tied the knot' with her childhood sweetheart - days before passing away from leukemia.
Emma Edwards was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in April last year but parents Alina, 39, and Aaron, 41, said they were hopeful that she'd be able to beat the illness.
But in June the family were given the heartbreaking news that Emma's cancer, an aggressive form that affects white blood cells, was incurable and she only had days to live. Emma sadly passed away on July 11.
Alina said Emma's dream was to marry boyfriend of two years, ten-year-old Daniel Marshall Christopher Williams Junior, also known as DJ, with the pair previously attempting to 'wed' at school during lunchtime when they were eight.
Family and friends decided to band together to make Emma's dream come true and a ceremony was held for the young couple on June 29 where 100 guests turned up to watch them tie the knot.
Aaron walked Emma down the aisle in her gran's garden and their third-grade teacher made a speech about how the pair's relationship began.
Stay-at-home mom Alina, from Walnut Cove, North Carolina, said: 'Most kids want to go to Disneyland but Emma wanted to get married, be a wife and have three kids.
'Their teacher spoke at their wedding and said they tried to have a wedding at recess.
'They had a bridesmaid and groomsmen and kids came to class with clip-on ties. It was really cute but the teacher said there wasn't going to be a wedding in her class.
'When me and DJ's mom found that out, we said we had to let them get married. It had to happen super-fast.'

Am glad this little girl got her wish.
I know very little about leukemia. Is it painful?
Just when we think there is no good left in the world.
Just watching that little video clip made me gasp.
Broke my heart.
I’m not an Oncologist. I figure it is though but they give them a lot of painkillers.
Why are kids still dying of leukemia ? The vast majority can be cured by chemo and most of those that relapse can be cured by CAR-T. CAR-T unfortunately however costs half a million dollars
My heart goes you to that young lady, but I kind of wonder how young “DJ” will deal with this. Perhaps it is harmless and he’ll simply feel the grief of loosing someone close.
This was a very wonderful thing for Emma. Good thing it wasn’t a legal wedding because the poor young boy would be responsible for her medical bills.
I thought Joe cured cancer. You mean, that was a lie? Joe would never lie, or even stretch the truth, would he?
The article says her leukemia was ‘incurable’, in other words chemo resistant. That’s exactly what CAR-T is for. Doesn’t say if she was treated with CAR-T. Poor/incomplete journalism.
“Poor/incomplete journalism.”
The story wasn’t to satisfy your pedestrian views on cancer treatments. It was about the goodwill nature of her getting her dying wish.
The dumbing down of America, reading comprehension is shot to Hell.
Walnut Cove is near Winston-Salem, the home of the Brenner Children’s Hospital. A friend’s child had his childhood leukemia treated there. The kid’s living at the beach now.
Joe has cured every everything except Trump. They haven't found a cure for Trump yet. They are hoping Jack Smith is it.
The article said she was in a lot of pain but refused the painkiller because she didn’t want to fall asleep during the ceremony. That young man is incredible.
Very touching and, I have great hopes for that good young man. Not every ten year-old boy would have taken part so willingly.
Sweet and heartbreaking. Thanks for sharing.
From the article:
“ ‘She was in a lot of pain when we got her dressed. It wore her out but she wanted to hold off on pain meds because she didn’t want to fall asleep at her wedding.”
:’(
DJ is more of a man than many I know.
May our Lord bless him and his love Emma’s family.
May all their days be a blessing to Him.
Does st. Jude supply that?
What is a 'pedestrian view' on cancer treatments ? An article like this is written for a broad audience and different readers are looking for different things. I understand wanting to present this as a tragic story, and it is, but it's also missing some detail. A lot of people would like to know why is a child dying of a disease that is considered 'conquered'.
