That’s an American thing. Much of Europe (including Sweden) has banned the tranny madness.
In Sweden it is illegal to:
* Give puberty blockers to minors
* Giver hormones to minors
* mutilate minors for gender madness

It means after 90:00 of play time (soccer is two 45:00 halves which is timed from 0:00 -> 45:00 and the second half from 45:01 -> 90:00) which is kept by the referee. The laws of the game give the referee the power to add on time at the end of each held for time lost due to injury or undue delay
I think in international play there are two extra time periods (15:00 a piece) from 90:01 -> 105:00 and 105:01 -> 120:00
These are full time. It is not sudden death or “golden goal”
At the conclusion of these time periods if the game is still tied it is declared a draw. If a winner is necessary as in the case of the round of 16, then the game is decided by “taking of kicks from the penalty mark”
Each team alternates taking a shot from the penalty spot which is 12 yards from the goal. The Goalkeeper must be on the goal line when the ball is kicked. If one team in a best of five shots clearly prevails (ie score is 3-1 after four rounds) then that team wins. If the score is still tied after five rounds, the it is sudden death (or golden goal) head to head competition. Only the 11 players on the field at the end of the game are eligible and not substitutes are permitted. If a player was sent off during the match…I believe that the team who has more players also drop the 11th shooter to not permit an 11 vs 1 shooter if it goes that far

Sweden won in taking of kicks from the mark 5-4 because the American player shooting in the fifth (considered the clutch player) missed.
The official final score is
0-0 with Sweden wining 5-4 in penalties.

I thought Sweden would win like 3-0. No way the US was good enough this time around to even make the semis.

I doubt that the USSF will have learned their lesson as long as it's under the control of the Biden Administration. So they'll just repeat the same mistakes for the next World Cup in 2027.
